Any luck with National ID's and Coupons codes

The $35 coupon won't work for me, but the $30 weekly one worked. I wanted to add that it is an E Coupon, and no need to worry about having it in hand, I've used them in the past no problem. I always have whatever credit card I book with, but I will say that using Emerald Club they don't charge your card in person, you get an estimated receipt and they email you a final receipt after you are back home. I also found the Visa code to be the best rate during Easter week. Still hoping it will drop further...I need to check again.

thanks for all the awesome codes!! we aren't going till dec so the $35 code won't work for us, but the other one sure does!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep checking because by December, you might find another rate that is MUCH cheaper. For this past December, Alamo was practically giving away full size cars at the beginning of the month. I paid about $100 for an 11 day rental from them.

The taxes were included in the price for that code along with insurance.
A friend of mine will be picking a car up in Orlando tonight using this code (8572987) and the National $30 coupon. I made the reservation for him a couple of weeks ago. He's going to call tomorrow and let me know if he had any problems with it. I also made him a backup reservation with Alamo, just in case.
I have a car reserved with the same code and coupon for Feb 27 so I want to make sure it works or else I'll have to make another reservation.
I'll let you know how he made out when I hear from him. :)

He said that everything went fine, no problems with the code or coupon. He did pay with his visa. :thumbsup2

I have a question... if you reserve a vehicle now and a better deal comes along later- is there anyway to adjust your reservation?

Yes! Just make a new reservation AND THEN delete the old. Never delete the old before you make a new ressie!

Sure, you can modify it online and either accept the modifications or stick with the original reservation.

Thanks!! I am very excited about this rate. My DH will be going tp PHX March 6 to 10th.

I do worry about some employee thinking they own the joint though and asking for "something"......That's why the back up ressies are always smart.

THANK YOU to all who are coming back to update us!!!!!!!

How does the back up ressie work? Do you just make a ressie, then never show up if all goes well? Would you just leave the car at the checkout window and go somewhere else? Would you use National for a backup ressie, they whip out the other ressie if the give you a hard time?

We did that once, and the woman got a little upset because we had not canceled one of our ressies before arriving.

I would find the next best rate out there that let's you reserve without a payment. If you don't show up for it you don't show. As for National, if they say sorry we are tacking on "X" amount I would say "Sorry, I have a cheaper rate at "XXX"...
Does that make sense?
My DH has a ressie for the same price but a smaller SUV at Budget waiting for him if National goes arry. The problem is DH is NOTHING like me so he would probably just hand them over the extra $100 or more.:headache:

the $35 is an e-coupon, so nothing to print :) .
fyi, if you sign up for national's emerald club (free thru mousesavers link), there is no additional charge for "same household family members" driving
hth :)

So if you want your spouse to be able to drive, you have to check in at the desk? I'm not finding anyplace to add their info (driver's license, name) like at the prompt that charges for an additional driver.
I'm confused!

Sympatico: Thanks for the update! I feel a lot better knowing someone has had success with the mystery code.

The first time we used our Emerald Club card in Orlando - we went to the garage, and at the counter there, I mentioned to the person that my husband would also be driving. He only showed his driver's license, with his name, and we were on our way. This was about 7 yrs ago - perhaps the policy has changed since then, but someone else will let us know.

The code worked great for me. I was able to p/u at MCO on 03/21/08 and drop off on 03/26/08 for $213.00 intermediate size unlimited miles.
I did have us using FL Tours for 1 way which was going to be around $70.00 to the Hilton at Downtown Disney. I did not have us getting a rental car until Sun 03/23 with p/u at the Hilton using Avis. We are planning to drive over to Tampa on 03/24. I did have us dropping off the car at MCO on Wed. The rate was $109.00 unlimited miles. If I use our Amer Express card, there will be an additional 25% taken off, but for a couple bucks more, we will have the car the entire trip which gives us a little more flexibility and freedom to visit area attractions. Thank you to whomever posted that code - worked great!!

I've got to admit that VISA code does not give me warm fuzzies. I tried using it yesterday and it came up with negative taxes and fees. I realized this when I noticed that the final all-in rate was lower that the car rental rate itself. Last time I checked the government was not in the habit of giving money to people. I think the huge savings people are getting with this rate is because something about it is causing National's computer system to calculate the total amount incorrectly. I think people are going to be very surprised when they rent their cars and find out they really do have to pay the taxes and fees and the total amount is quite a bit more than the quote on the website. The reservation only guarantees your car rate, not that taxes and fees won't change.

Thanks for the response, lovingthemouse. I called the National desk last night and they said what you did.

I just want to say thanks to all of you who gave such great info on National rates! I just reserved cars for four upcoming trips and saved tons.
Happy savings, everyone.

The taxes and fees are included in the price along with insurance. Look under where the ID number comes up on the last page.

Its one thing to say they are included. Its another thing to actually have them come up as negative. If they are included it should read zero.

I believe what she is referring to is this - when we originally used our Emerald Club card yrs ago, the gentleman at the counter in the garage, said my husband simply had to show his license - no other paperwork was necessary to be the second driver. Hope tis helps you out!

BTW DeeDee - using the VISA code - not sure what you are looking at, but our ressie says included all the way down, except for the sales tax - there is an amount listed for that. I, for one, am trusting the code and we will be using it tomorrow. If there are any issues, I"ll be online Friday to let everyone know. I have called National twice about this very concern, and both times have been assured that the code is viable (we are using VISA to pay).
