Any luck with National ID's and Coupons codes

Its one thing to say they are included. Its another thing to actually have them come up as negative. If they are included it should read zero.

The one I did does not come up as negative. The tax is added to the price and then further down the line it is removed, because it is included in the price.

Looks legit. to me.

We are Emerald Club members and tried every code imaginable for our trip in December. Unfortunately some expired before our trip. Nothing. I ended up booking with Hertz...oh well it wasn't a great rate but it will have to do $447.23 including all tax and fees for a toyota sienna for 7 days.

I went back and checked again with the VISA code and I still got negative numbers in the tax and fee section of the quote. However, based on comments here I decided to go forward and reserve the car. When I got my e-mail confirmation, the lines with the negative numbers were gone.:confused3 Maybe its OK.

I'm looking forward to people reporting back on whether they actually got charged the amount they were quoted. I've reserved both this and through Hertz to cover my bases. This rate including the $30 coupon, was $50 lower than Hertz with AAA for me. That's not a huge savings but I'll still take it.

I think you might have gotten the cheaper rate through Budget because that date is at the end of President's Week. Airport rates for this upcoming week , without great codes, have been over $555. for quite a while now - incl airport pick-up for 9 days. We have played with so many codes, coupons (none can be used after a certain time frame) etc.... Next time, I'll be more proactive in getting my rental car, far in advance and once reserved, take time to play around with modifications.

My friend, whom I booked this for, is down there now. He'll be home on the 21st and I'll find out from him if the actual charge to his visa was what was printed on the reservation confirmation. I'll post back to let you know.

I am a little confused. What do you mean "negative numbers in the tax and fee section"? I have never seen anything like that before. Not just with National but with any rental car agency. The breakdown they gave me looks like this:

:car:

When I got the confirmation, it looked like yours did above. But when I was on the site itself, I actually had negative numbers on some line items. I thought about taking a screen shot and posting it but there was too much personal info there so I didn't. What I got was along the lines of:

Car rental $300
Taxes -$10
Fees -$10
Total Estimate $280

I see. I wonder why that happened? Interesting. So your final confirmation email did not have the negative numbers. I went back to nationalcar.com and made the same reservation with the contract code. No negative numbers and still ended up with $213.00 for the week. We shall see.
 :woohoo: :surfweb: :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I got the negative sales tax numbers on my reservation too. Here's what I saw on the confirmation on the web page (condensed version)...

Time & Distance $208.10
Discount coupon (35.00)
Sales tax (6.5%) 4.90
Subtotal $178.00

Taxes, Surcharges and Fees
Concession Fee Recov Chrg 9.8 Pct (3.43)
Sales Tax (6.50%) (2.50)
Subtotal (5.93)

Estimated Total $172.07

My email confirmation has the same total but doesn't show the negative sales tax.
:confused3

I started at the beginning of this thread and redid my reservation. Now I see where the negative numbers came into play. If you used the visa contract code along with the e-coupon code for $30.00 off, it recalucated the tax.

Here is my reservation confirmation:

This is exactly what we're paying for Easter Week...I'm still hoping it will drop more. When are you going?

We arrive 03/21/08 and depart 03/26/08. I only had a rental car for part of our trip. We are staying at the Hilton across from Downtown Disney. I was going to p/u a car on Sunday through Avis at the hotel so we could drive over to Tampa on 03/24/08. I have been reading about how busy Disney is going to be that weekend due to Easter. Now that I was able to book the car at a very reasonable rate for the whole time, this really frees up our time. We will probably hit Disney/Epcost on Tuesday 03/25/08 since they are open late because of Magic Hours. I really want to do Gatorland, Cape Kennedy, Busch Gardens and visit the beach over at Clearwater.

Wow you all are getting reasonable rates. We are going down March 17- 26 and the best I can get for a rate is $310 at EA. It must be high due to Easter. Any thoughts on this.

I believe it. Without the help of the codes and e-coupons, I was looking at least $500.00+ range. I did get a good rate going through an email I received from Avis re: American Express. I had us booked using FL Tours for 1-way which was around $70.00 to the Hilton at Downtown Disney. I did not have us getting a rental car until Sun 03/23 with p/u at the Hilton Avis location. I had us dropping off the car at MCO on Wed 03/26 which the rate was $109.00 intermediate with unlimited miles before the 25% American Express discount. If you want to check out local rentals in Orlando, you might do better. I am glad that I used the National codes. Now I am able to have the car for the entire time which gives us much more flexibility. Good Luck!

You are using the car for a week plus additional days. Check the rate on the additional days and that should tell you why your rate is higher.

Wow! Sounds like you guys have a lot planned! We're going from 3/20-27 but only getting the car from 22-27. Have fun!:wizard:

You do the same! It has been about 3 to 4 years since we have been to Disney. For the past couple of years we have gone to Hawaii twice, which I HIGHLY recommend.

Thank you thank you many thanks to the OPoster!!
Wonderful help with the codes everyone - who knew that we could use our Visa and save so much!
