Any Luck Parking at Manhattan Cruise Terminal?

Has anyone had luck being able to park right at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal? I understand it's no reservations, first come first serve parking. I'm just curious if it's worth banking on parking right there or if it's typically full. I like the convenience of being able to park right there, but not being able to make a reservation makes me hesitate.

*Departing on Sept 30th*

There are actually quite a few parking decks <.2 miles away from the cruise terminal as well.
Google, "Manhattan Cruise Terminal Parking" and do a bit of research.
You might want to telephone a few places the day before to get a sense of how busy each place is . . . .

And remember:
The same ship departing on Sep 30th with 400~600 parties driving and parking their vehicles at/near the cruise terminal by or before 1pm
is also disembarking 400~600 parties who will be getting into their automobiles parked at/near the cruise terminal and leaving by 9:30~10am.

There are several piers there, also the probability of several cruise ships. There are three ramps - ground level, middle level where the porters are, and upper level to get to the parking areas. Enter at the north end, exit at south end. Our first pass was to drop off the luggage with the porters on the middle ramp. I then exited at the south end and headed back to the north end. Took the upper ramp / third level to drive down to the pier for DCL parking. Parked. Elevator down to the middle level for cruise check in. After we exited the elevator and were heading to the check in area, we saw the porter that took our luggage. I thanked him again and he recognized us and escorted us to where we needed to go. I had tipped him rather nicely.

Google maps street view is helpful.

Thanks for the info. I have noticed that there is other Pier Parking (I have seen Pier 83 and 81, specifically) and have reached out to inquire on normal availability. We are traveling with a toddler, so we have been just debating whether we should take out chances with parking at the pier itself (hoping it's available upon our arrival), or reserving at a parking garage within walking distance to the pier

Thank you!

There is a ramp near the south end of the cruise area, but not the one all the way at the south end. IIRC Google maps street view shows this ramp as a down ramp. It was not.

Just a heads up too, the cruise arriving that day is a transatlantic, so I would bet that most of the passengers debarking aren’t going to be parked at the dock. 😉 So chances are the garage could be emptier than usual.

Hey, we’ll be getting on the Magic that day, too! We parked at the terminal for the same itinerary in October 2019 and had no problem getting a spot. Undecided this time around if we’ll park at the pier or maybe take the Port Imperial ferry to try to save some money.

Looks like there is only one other ship in port on September 30th....the Carnival Magic. I think your chances are pretty good for port parking. It is $40 per day. If it was any more than 2 ships I might worry but 2 ships I think you have a good chance.

We sail Oct 10 and 3 ships are listed on schedule. We have to drive ourselves from 2 hrs away. Based on your experiences with NY should we reserve somewhere else ? Port Canaveral was so easy, NYC feels stressful out the gate.

I hope that @dam9 doesn't mind a little thread hijacking, but it seems like the original question has been answered and that a lot of folks here have sailed from NYC before. I haven't, but I will be in October. So...

Does anyone have experience arriving at the pier on foot? We're staying at a hotel that's just about 10 minutes walk from the pier and I'd rather not get a cab for that. What's the process for arriving this way?

Arriving on foot is the same as getting dropped off by vehicle. We walk over from the Port Imperial/Weehawkin ferry drop off area which is not a far walk to the port. You will find porters there in front taking luggage just find one and hand over your luggage. We then like to walk in front of the windows that are right there to take a photo in front of the ship before going up stair/elevator to security and check in.

I've parked there twice and never had a problem. First trip arrived about 9:30 (wanted to visit The Intrepid before boarding) and snagged the third spot from the elevator. Second trip we arrived around 10:30 and were about halfway up the pier. I circled back around, dropped the family and bags off and then parked.
There will also be a security check when you enter the parking area. You'll need to pop your trunk/hatchback and a dog will sniff around. Takes about a minute.

We have parked at the terminal and never had a problem. One of the times the cruise ship did not return to the same pier so we had to go out of the terminal and walk over to the pier where we originally parked. It wasn't a big deal. Just mentioning it as something that could happen.

Yup. Very easy.

Remember, subtract 40. Pier88 is at 48th St. and there is good pedestrian crossing. Two blocks south (46th St) is a pedestrian overpass to where the Intrepid is docked at Pier 86.

We've done taxi from PennSta, and also walked the 9 blocks to/from the Port Imperial terminal @ 39th St. . . . which also connects to many places in Manhattan via free bus routes. The Hudson River Greenway is a nice walkway, but watch out for bicycles.

Btw, my experience is that getting a taxi after disembarking at 9am'ish may be challenging, so an alternative plan is good.

Thanks! I won't be returning to NYC at the end, so I'm not worried about getting a taxi then.

We are on that sailing too!!! According to the schedule there is only 1 other ship in port on the 10th. The other ship you see on the 10th is located at the Brooklyn terminal, not the Manhattan terminal.

My only concern is that it is Columbus Day and the big parade starts at 12 at 44th street so I don't know if any of the West Side Highway will be affected.
