Any hope of them postponing Splash refurb?

After exploring many other great places to visit, like Yosemite, Glacier, Yellowstone, Bermuda, and a couple cruises, we decided to go back to Disney after 7 years! We were the type of family that went every year. Then it happened to us. Those threads you have been seeing recently about Disney loosing its magic. So we explored other things, the kids grew up, and now the hubs and I are taking our first couples visit!

So much has changed! New fastpass system, new sections of parks, and new rides! But my favorite ride will be closed next month when we go! I love Splash! I was hoping that with all the other rides closing like Energy and Great Movie, that they would postpone the Splash refurb.

Anybody hear anything?

The refurb date was first leaked back in March and no discrepancy was noted when the Splash refurb was confirmed. Disney has deadlines to complete projects prior to the 50th Anniversary:

It is very unlikely they will postpone the rehab, though stranger things have happened. It always stinks when a favorite is down, but try to look forward to all the other great stuff you will get to see. There's plenty of new stuff too. You'll have fun, no matter what!

I feel your pain, OP.

I'm going next month with no Splash Mountain, Great Movie Ride and Ellen's Energy Adventure.

At least Splash will be back next time we go.

I really do question their sanity of closing down that particular ride just a few days before Labor Day weekend. Really would have made a lot more sense to me to keep it open through 9/3 or 9/4 and then close it. Like you, OP, it's one of my very favorite rides, so super disappointed that it will be closed for my first ever week-long Disney vacation (I'm typically a long-weekend type guest). I keep holding out hope they'll come to their senses and move the closing date by a week, but it's a very dim hope and not really expecting it to happen. I know it's a bummer for you for it to be closed, but if you have not been in 7 years, there will be a reasonable amount of new stuff to explore to lessen the sting.

I'm hoping they hurry it along and re-open early, as is we'll miss it by a few days so we don't need much of a break.

Personally....I am peeved at a few things happening in DW right now. Splash being down during the summer months is one of them. The Great Movie Ride and Universe of Energy completely closing are the other things. Seems like hardly any notice was given. Now, that being said, what I can be happy about is that I've ridden these rides many times and will have memory of them, and I guess the new rides will give us all something to look forward to in the future. But I can pout and throw a fit about it right now!!! :charac2::charac2:

I feel your pain, we will get to enjoy it the first two days of our trip this year at least but last time we went Pirates was down the whole time and that was really sad

There are always people who will complain about refurbs...they are never going to make everyone happy. But then if they don't do the refurbs, people will complain that something looks dirty or isn't operating properly. Its a lose-lose situation all around for Disney.

I'm just hoping it reopens on time. It is supposed to reopen on my departure day. I plan to go to MK and ride Splash about 5 or 6 times, then hit the road.

Of course they have to close rides to refurbish them. I just selfishly hope it's delayed:).

The timing of this refurb truly sucks. It's still very hot in September and, often, much of October, yet the only water ride in the MK will be closed. And why does it take nearly three freakin' months to fix a few broken AAs and effects? Why not refurbish it during winter months?

Splash is one of my favorite rides, and, to add injury to injury, when I was at Disneyland last Fall, guess which ride was closed there, too? Yep.

Rides magically don't upkeep. I really don't understand why people get so bent out of shape.

September-November has a lower average crowd level compared to the rest of the year. They absolutely need it back online in time for Christmas. They can't do a multi-month refurb in the beginning of the year because there are so many busy times scattered throughout February, March, and April.

I'm in a similar position. I'm probably going to wind up riding Splash the day it opens or the next day since it's going to reopen in the middle/toward the end of my upcoming trip. I feel where OP is coming from but I sure hope they don't postpone, or else I will be the one missing it!

Anyone know historically for the months long refurbs whether they typically reopen exactly on time or if they've opened early?

I agree with pretty much everyone - I am going to feel the pain of this specific refurb. And I agree that they do need to happen. Oh well, we'll just save Splash for the next trip.

BTM was down on our last trip, splash is down this time.

It kinda sucks, but they have refurbs for a reason, it's just another excuse to go back :)

That was us last year. We will get the 25th to 28th for splash till it goes down us. We will miss the goodbyes to GMR and Ellen.
