Any "Hidden Gems" at DLR?

I also have a question about the Lilly Belle train. Now I can't remember where I read about it, but I think it said that if you ask at the train station first thing in the morning, you can request to ride in that train car. I think it's limited to just a few people, sort of "first come, first served."

Can anyone verify this? I've heard it's just beautiful.

I'm making up a trivia contest for the girls, so if you could answer my questions if possible, I can add them to the list and the girls can have fun finding the answers.

Halloween Carnival - I thought this was not on this year?
Lilybelle traincar - TOTALLY going to ask about this (and the tender too!)
Captaining the Mark Twain - going to try this too
Free maps on Jungle Cruise - on the list
Penny presses (many) - have our pennies at the ready!
Pixie Hollow light show - does this start at dusk?
Oh! The petting zoo that I think is going away soon - the girls are excited about this
Art gallery on Main street - in shops or on the street?
Main street cinema and Mr Lincoln - anyone know what show is playing?
Tour of Walt's apartment - I thought this was in WiWF tour only?
Main street vehicles (I think you can ride a firetruck and carriage etc.) - they look like fun
Red Car Trolleys - is this DCA?
I personally love Turtle talk with Crush (not really hidden anymore) - my girls will love this
The Blue Dinosaur eggs next to Rockets pizza port - why are they there?
The disneyland cats - are they feral?
The little man's house - who is this little man and why does he have a house at DLR?
Free Pixie Dust next to the castle - I'll leave that for the girls
Markethouse phones - do they work?
The hidden bathroom - is this Alice's?
Several live performances - going to try to see them all!
Fortune tellers in pieces of eight and Main street? and Aladdin's lamp - where's this at?
Echo circle next to innoventions - is it marked?
Geocache/ Letterbox - I don't geocache, but what's the letter box all about?
Hidden Mickeys - the girls are already looking for them on the videos we watch

Halloween Carnival: What!?!

Art Gallery on Main street to the right as you walk in.

Main street cinema has several old movie shorts playing while Mr Lincoln is in a separate building and I think its just the one show.

Red Car Trolley is in DCA

Blue Dino Eggs: I don’t think anyone knows why.

Yes feral cats.

Markethouse phone: If you pick up the old-fashioned phone in the Market House you can “listen in” on a funny conversation.

Live performances are mostly listed on the little “show performance” guide they give you with the map.

Pieces of Eight I think is in New Orleans Square and Adventureland Bazaar is in Adeventureland.

Innoventions echo circle: there are two of them close together. Google Tomorrowland secret echo spot on youtube. Its just a spot that has perfect acoustics and creates and echo.

Letterbox is like geocache. I have no check either lately so I am not sure they are still active.

I found out back in July that there was no Halloween Carnival this year, and announced it in the Halloween Time at DLR Superthread!

someone mentioned a tour of Walt's apartment. I think that used to be included in the "Walt's Footsteps" tour, but I remember someone mentioning that it was taken off the tour schedule. Thanks!

Walt's Apartment is only for VIP's -- it's off the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour. They put the Lilly Belle back on a rotation to make up for it. But it's not always running.

The Mark Twain Wheelhouse is now limited as well.

Don't forget you can ask to ride in the front of the Monorail.

Hope I'm not giving out special secrets. Most people find most of these things boring.

The secret bathroom is gone now as a result of the CPG/PFF remodel.
There is no Halloween Carnival this year.
I've been told by CMs that geocaching is not allowed at DLR after a disastrous event in DtD. (Someone left a geocache, security and the dogs were called about an unattended package, results not pretty, etc.)

<“How clever I am,” he crowed … — J. M. Barrie, Peter Pan> straight from the Merriam Webster dictionary

* jumping fish, gather a crowd and see how many folks wait with you to see the fish
* snow white's mess in the kitchen. 3 seconds is not enough to gather in the best themed 10 feet in the park.
*Dumbo at sunset, with the Peter Pan weather vane in the clouds
*Ever paid admission to see the Mona Lisa? Disneyland is that other place to pay admission to see the Mona Lisa
*there are two Sailing Ships in NOS

Mommy26, that's a great list! My favorite is the Pixie Hollow Light Show. It's very pretty and feels so private because most park goers miss this one completely since the show is secluded in Pixie Hollow.

Thanks for sharing this, I never knew about it but it looks magical - can't wait to see it!

IS this a nightly event?

It's so weird, I spent a long time online last night looking for information about the Pixie Hollow Enchantment water show and nothing is definitive. It originated back in 2009 for the Summer Nightastic! season, running every 15 minutes from June 12 - August 23. But since then, no official schedule exists. I know it ran last December because I have a few terrible pics of it from that trip.

This is is only my estimation and not official, but I believe now the show is a random little dusting of pixie magic to surprise guests because it would be more acknowledged and popular if it were on a predictable schedule. I'm going to try and catch it this December by using the rocky area between the Astro Orbiter and Pixie Hollow as a rest and snack point and the nearby parade route to watch Paint the Night. The water show music can be heard from those points and you can even see it from the Astro Orbiter side.

How on Earth did I miss “no carnival” on the Halloween page? That’s where I got the idea from! I’ve been to the page several times. I seriously think I'm losing my mind sometimes.

Didn’t mean to mislead anyone, but I am so glad I posted. I did not know the secret bathroom was gone (I guess now its really really secret) and I wondered if the bomb scare was really just a geocache. I haven’t checked the websites in ages, but I thought you could do some outside the park and some could be done with a secret message instead of a package.

Is the Mona Lisa at Disneyland?

What do you mean by Snow Whites mess in the kitchen?

I hope the pixie hollow show is every 15 minutes at night so I can watch without waiting/checking all night.

I really wish they would have a definitive time for Carsland lighting up too.

Any hidden gems that we shouldn't miss at DLR? One thing I want to try this trip is the Animation Academy drawing class - I think they closed it at WDW, and I never took the time to go.

Any other things that are a little off the beaten path that most folks miss? Any suggestions would be appreciated, whether they're attractions, restaurants that are often overlooked, etc.

Thanks!

just want to say YES - do the Animation Academy! We had never done it till our last trip and I'm so glad we did. We sat in the front row of the drawing room so the animator had a clear view of us. My sensitive 6 year old DD ended up crying because she didn't like the way her Cheshire Cat looked :( The animator saw her and made a point to tell her how nice it was, don't get frustrated, it takes a long time to learn to draw like the real animators, and so forth. Then she brought DD up on the stage with her and gave my daughter the copy of the drawing that she had done. Such a great Pixie Dust moment, and we have some great souvenirs! The "authentic" animator's drawing and all our own attempts! :)

Oh my oh my oh my! I really love this; I didn't know there was a light show here--and I've walked through Pixie Hollow at night several times in the last year. So...are there certain times the light show happens? Thanks so much for sharing this--I really gotta' get back soon now!

Yes, it was a geocache. From what CMs have told me, virtual geocaching is fine, just not the real thing.

And the time for the CL lighting is not hard to determine. Google the sunset time for the day in question, then try to be on Rte. 66 about 5-10 minutes beforehand to get a good spot. Whenever I ask a CM in CL for the lighting time, they use Google to find the answer. There is no "definitive" time because the time for sunset changes throughout the year.

Walt's apartment: It is on the ABD southern CA trip.

ABD is considered VIPs. I meant it's not going to be put back on a daily tour for a long time, if ever. It's also not handicapped accessible so ABD can work with Disney ahead of time if they have someone needing assistance getting up there.
