Any experiences with the Relief Band 2.0 for motion sickness?

I have the patch, but have not used it yet. Do you have any side effects? If so, what? Also, do you feel any side effects after removing it? Also, can you have an alcoholic drink with it? My doctor said OK to alcohol (but not to go overboard), but looking for first hand info. It would be one drink, at most, with a meal.

Sorry for all the questions!
I do noy have any side effects from it. Dd and a friend of mine however, do have issues with being thirsty and the close up vision issue. My dd will still wear one short term, for FoP and the like. If we did another cruise she would also wear it, because it's worth it. I wear mine pretty much my whole trip, before a flight until we get home. I do drink, a couple a day, while wearing it.

Side effects are typically dry mouth (though I haven't had that one in a long while) and it does make my near vision blurry (I can read fine and use my phone etc but, let's say...trying to remove a splinter would be very difficult). IF you get residue from the patch on your hand and touch your eye it will dilate your eye thus making vision very blurry. I counter that by putting a round band aid over the patch so I don't accidentally touch it, even in my sleep. I wash my hands THOROUGHLY before and after applying. You put a new one every 3 days. I usually apply my first one at night before bed, the night prior to our trip. Depending on timing I will usually leave my last one on the full 3 days and then remove it at bedtime. I tried taking one off at the end of our trip as we were driving home even though I had only had it on for 2 days and I got VERY nauseous (it's withdrawal).

I don't drink alcohol, but you can with the patch. Not like slamming shots, but you can have a drink or two with dinner.

I used a patch for our cruise. Nothing else works. Seabands, no. Bonine, no. Meclizine, no. I get vertigo from time to time, mostly from crystals in my inner ear. My ENT has given me exercises to do to help relieve the dizziness and to help make it go away. She told me that all those nausea drugs don't really work the way I want them to work and can make it worse.

We got back from our Disney cruise and I had just put a fresh patch on the last day at sea, so it was still good. I had wanted to try Space Mountain, so I thought I was good with the patch. I wasn't.

Update

I received the band and tested it out. My wife drove while I put together a mobile order at a restaurant. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the results. That task is something that would have made me sick in under a minute and I was able to complete it, even though it took about 5 minutes. The band is a little funky on the wrist and the "zap" is definitely noticeable. I will want to test it some more before getting any true comfort level with it and I wouldn't use this for a day at Disney because I'd be afraid the battery would die / I wouldn't want to keep adding the gel to my wrist. But for car / plane rides, I would definitely consider using this vs medication.

I won't be sending it back...for what that's worth.

I’ve never heard of these but have suffered from motion sickness since I was a kid. I studied Marine Science in school and really didn’t want to take medicine that would make me drowsy, because at times I was responsible for collecting data for long periods and overnight- at sea. So, I tried bands- not sure what they are called- but they are black with a dot in the center that presses into a pressure point in your wrist. Works for me. It also works in the car and on rides that had bothered me like Soarin.

I get motion sickness too. On a cruise we took in 2017 I wore the motion bands the entire cruise. Others who were seasoned cruisers got sick in our dining room and had to go back to their rooms/lay down. I did not. I felt they worked for me - placebo or not. I took 2 more cruises after that and didn't need the bands at all. I was perfectly fine. I would wear them on a VR ride to test them out whenever that may be. I would be curious to know if they worked. I can't ride most of the Universal rides that are VR -they mess with me too much and I feel terrible for the rest of the day :-(

Good luck on the reliefband though! Hope it works :-)

Resurrecting an old thread to see if the OP has any updates on the Relief Band. Keep going back and forth about purchasing. Would love to know how the last year or so went using it.

Not the OP, but I purchased the EmeTerm band because it was less expensive than the Relief Band. It works the same way. We just got back from a trip to Universal and IOA a couple weeks ago. My son and I used the bands and took Dramamine. I do feel like they made a positive difference especially in recovery time. I still had a few rides that I felt queasy with afterwards (spinning screen rides like Spiderman and Mummy), but I recovered from this faster than I would have without the bands. It definitely let me ride more than I would have ridden without. I can't wait to try it on FOP next time we go to Disney! The key is to make sure to get it in the right spot on the wrist. You want to feel tingling in your ring and pinky finger. It feels really weird at first, but you get used to it.

OP here. It's funny you resurrected this string. Our trip is next week. I would be happy to report back with my results.

It has helped me on car rides but I haven't tested it in an amusement park.

I have picked up the new sport version with the Apple watch band accessory. I like that I won't have to wear multiple things on my wrist.

Just to be safe, I will have the patch with me too. I am very prone and do not want to take any chances of it ruining my trip.

One thing of note, if you have a FSA account, you can purchase with it. They are covered.

So, I just got back last night from 3 days in Universal and 6 at Disney.

I used a combo of the patch and the band and was able to go on everything! A few rides did get to me at the end (Forbidden Journey for sure), but the feeling would go away after I got off. I would keep the band going for 5-10 minutes after, just to be sure.

I would only turn the band on when I got on the rides. I didn't leave it on all day.

I am curious if the patch, alone, would have been enough, but I didn't want to take chances.

I used the new sport version with the apple watch band as it fits more snug.

Any questions, just ask.

Hey- sorry to bring up an old thread again but I am thinking of buying a Reliefband for my wife for her birthday and just searched the boards and found this.

We've done Disney and Universal many times and neither of us have had issues in the past. We're in our mid-30s now and on our flight home from our last trip she actually got sick in the airport after we landed. I heard of this product a while back but didn't think much of it until that flight. I'm also pretty terrible with b-day gifts so I was thinking this might be a good idea for future trips.

I like the idea of the Sport but not a fan of the black and grey options (well I don't think she will is what I really mean). You mention you use it with your Apple Watch, can you use any band with it? She doesn't have an Apple Watch but do you think she could just purchase a band and use it without? I figured if she has the product she can buy any band she wants to make it look better.

Thanks for your first hand experience input on it.

I wouldn't say you could use any band for it, but it does have slots to loop a band through on each end, so as long as the band can do that, you should be fine. Maybe Etsy has bands?

Also, if it's just for flights and things like that, maybe the color wouldn't be such a problem?

I tried the premier version before the sport and it's way too rigid. The sport version is much easier to get a snug fit, which is necessary.

Good luck!

Good idea with Etsy, she loves buying stuff from there so I'm sure she'll check that out if she wants.

I'm sure in addition to flights we'll also bring it on our Disney/Universal trips. Haven't ever had an issue with a Disney ride yet, and at Universal on our last trip we were able to do Velocicoaster and Hagrid's both twice in the same day and was fine but Simpson's and every once in a while Forbidden Journey can be a little rough for us both. I'm curious how the new Guardian's and Tron ride will be. Figure it would just be a good/easy thing to pack in the backpack and have just in case.

Yeah I like the look of the premier but I'm not confident on it fitting her wrist great so I'm thinking the sport is a better option and maybe easier for either of us to wear.

I'm thinking I'll give it a try, thanks for your info.

Just a reminder. If you have FSA funds, this is an approved device to purchase with them.
