My DH and I found an above pool on Craigslist that is a fantastic deal! :cool1: In an effort to keep this within a reasonable budget, I was wondering if someone could give me an idea what kind of cost we are looking forward to when it comes to the electrial part. We need to have a 20amp breaker installed and a line run about 15 feet (under ground) to a post near the pool. The receptical needs to be GFCI protected. I know it won't be exact but just a ball park idea would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hi- We own an electrical contracting company (in Colorado). If you are also hiring the company(or individual) to dig the trench for you, we would probably charge between $400-$600. An individual guy might be less due to less overhead and costs than we would be though. But, prices are probably much different where you are. Hope this helps.

Around $700-$1000 depending on what your panel and pool look like. It is a litttle more invoved than just breaker and outlet. The pool needs to be bonded to your electircal system and any local codes will also need to be adhered to.

We only paid $200. Ask around and find an electrician who does work on the side. We helped dig the trench, that saved us $$ too.

With our above ground pool, we just ran a 25ft extension cord between the receptacle on the house and the filter. It is easy to wind up when not in use. Maybe you could positions the pool a little closer to the house. Would save you a ton of money.

HotDiggity, that would not pass inspection in my NJ town.

Go your town hall and pick up the permit specifications. We were not allowed to plug the pool into the house outside receptacle. We had to run a line, underground, a minimum number of feet off the house, I forget the exact distance. We stuck a RR tie into the ground, sticking up about 3 feet and mounted the electrical and timer for the filter on that. They even specified how deep the trench had to be.

save some money, dig the trench yourself....our code is 20" down, we did it all to code, gets costly but is done safely and you will not have to worry in case you have any type issue down the line, ie insurance issue. The electrician will know what to do as far as safety and the law..good luck estimates here sound right,
