Any DVC empty nesters out there?

Shoot I bought my DVC for me . If some day down the road the kids or the wife don't want to go anymore I still can and will , with my grand daughter of course .

Just found this thread and have not read but a few of the replies. For us we bought after the kids had all married and moved out and have not looked back. Could not afford to any sooner with college and all to pay for. When they were with us we would go about once ever 3 or so years. Now we go at least once a year. We have added on at our home resort(OKW)once a few years ago and are now so glad we did. We have taken the kids and grandkids down with us 3 times now and are having even more fun than before. We just finished our last with a 6 night stay at OKW in a Grand Villa and there were 10 of us. There have been a few times when just the two of us went and did not even go to the parks, we just shopped, ate and looked around and had a blast each time. We have also taken two Members cruises. We are now planning to take a trip to Vero Beach sometime this summer/fall and are working on that now, enjoy...smjj

We are the Empty Nest family that are featured on the in-house DVC film at the Disney resorts. Apparently my excitement of my love of DVC at our age was enough to be chosen. We bought when our children were in college and didn't really want to spend that much time with us. We bought in 2000 and went without our kids for two - three years. Soon they graduated and went a couple times with us and enjoyed spending time as adult brother and sister doing the pleasure island thing. Soon they both married and then a few years later our grandchildren started coming. Now we all go on yearly Disney vacations as a family with all 9 of us. It is without a doubt, the best thing we ever did for our family. It truly fills my soul to look around and think that an idea of "i think our family will love this in the future has come to fruition.

When we bought in 2002 we had many many trips to WDW with and without kids. We were new empty nesters when we bought. Then in 2006 we relocated to Orlando and wondered if we should keep or sell our DVC. We decided to give it a year and then decide. We have doubled our points since then.

Even though we can easily visit WDW whenever we please, we still look forward to being on property for an extended visit.

JimC - I always wondered if we would still be using our DVC points in the extremely remote possibility that we would move to the Orlando area. I am so glad to read your take on this!

In the spring of 2009 our (then) 27 year old daughter (our other daughter was 25 and was married at Disney in 2008) asked if we wanted to go in to listen to a sales pitch on BLT with her and her fiance. She was just looking for a day in Boston and maybe some free stuff. Yeah right. Before we left, my wife and I had bought two 160 point contracts. We did not really know what DVC was, other than what we learned at the presentation, though we had made somewhere between 20-30 trips with our daughters. Even though we were complete empty nesters when we purchased, we certainly have never regretted the decision. We have given/sold points to relatives and made a number of trips ourselves including 5 nights at VGC. In 2010 we used points for a Disney cruise because we had never done the cruise and we basically had almost 2 years of points due to the timing of the initial purchase and the opening of BLT. And then last October we used banked and borrowed points to book a GV as well as 4 studios for guests as part of a 5-year wedding reunion for my daughter. It was made even better since we now had a 1 1/2 year old grandson to spoil. We are lucky to have children that love Disney, so even though we are technically empty nesters, it really doesn't feel like that at all.

We originally purchased in 1995 when our girls were just 5 & 6. We enjoyed a ton of trips including 4 cruises. It didn't hurt that when we purchased length of stay passes were included until 2000!:cool1:

A few years later and life got in the way plus we had to pay for college x2. So we sadly decided to sell our points. Fast forward to 2013. Both our girls graduated from college and we are basically on our own. We're both 47 and travel quite a bit. But we still enjoy Disney. What do we do? We go right back to the mouse. We are also looking forward to grandbabies in the not too distant future. We bought our VGF points during our November visit.

We ultimately would like to have 2 separate contracts to be able to will to each of the girls.

We have been going to WDW since MK opened. Yes...ugh...old people (or experienced???) :goodvibes

Anyway... our first timeshare was Disney Vacation Club at OKW which we've since sold off. It was the only game at that time and, frankly (no flames) it just was kind of a boring condo community. I love the action of SSR being near DTD, or the night time on Boardwalk (our favorite), the savanna at AKL...

Maybe overdose, but our DS is just not a Disney fan any more and although DD loves it completely, just to busy with career and would prefer snowboarding when she has the time off. They are 26 yr old twins.

So we are empty nesters fully expecting that when grandchildren come along someday, they will find Disney religion again.;)

For now....we love the alone time.

We're parents of grown twins too! :):) Our DDs are just a little older than your two, one is still a Disney devotee, the other is just too busy to deal with it now (job, kids, etc).

We are soooo looking forward to taking our two granddaughters. With their mother consumed with work, the DGDs and their Disney loving aunt are ready to roll to the world of Walt:) We're just waiting till at least one of them is totally potty trained and able to comprehend the classic Disney stories. :earsboy:
