Any DVC empty nesters out there?

We didn't buy DVC for our children, we bought it for ourselves. We hope to, one day share our love of Disney with our grandchildren. Our upcoming anniversary trip was suppose to be in Ireland and then our older son 23yo said he wanted to go back to Disney SO now our trip will be at VWL with our 23 & 17 yo sons. Probably our last vacation as "just the 4 of us"

Wow - No words

We bought once our kids were in college. Best vacation decision we ever made. (I would say investment but people here get cranky with that word!). But we have invested in having the style of vacation we want for years to come. Our sons love the World and love to join us. I'm sure grand kids will be joining us in the next few years. But for now, it's romantic walks through lush gardens, fireworks every night, a wonderful variety of restaurants, and the nicest resort staff you'll ever meet. It has truly become our second home--if only for a few weeks every year.

I know it but I'll get there. I have family in Mayo so I need to get there sooner rather then later. :thumbsup2

Happy anniversary!

Ireland is a beautiful, welcoming country, do go when you can!:goodvibes

An interesting thread; I've loved reading the replies.

We're similar to the OP in that we like the resorts but not so much the parks unless DS and his family are with us. We like OKW for the size of 1 bedroom villas and ease of parking and VB for listening to the ocean from my bed :cloud9:.

It was one of my best buys, although I must confess that the current prices have my head spinning :crazy2:

My mother's parents were from Mayo and Sligo! We must be cousins!::yes:: As Regis Philbin used to say "me Irish cousins" :mic:

It is the most beautiful country, we did a tour of Galway, Clare and more, to hit all the spots where our Irish ancestors came from. So sad they all had to leave there to live in a tenement in NYC, but so happy for us that they did!

We did also! I guess when the youngest went to school, we saw the end of the tuition tunnel. It was time to take care of us!

We love trying something new each time. Thanks to Southwest, we make 5-6 trips a year (mostly long weekends during the winter to get out of Chicago cold!)! It has been the best thing for us!

And, like you, our boys love the World and love being able to join us right before Xmas at BLT! ;)

Yeah to us empty nesters!

We bought in '08 when DS was 12. He will be a senior in high school in the Fall, then hopefully he will do the WDW CP for a semester or 2 in college. After years of being tied to his school schedule, it will be lovely for DH and I to be able to travel during OTHER times of the year. We went for Food & Wine for a few days last year and loved it. We would like to do Flower & Garden. I think we will continue to enjoy DVC even after DS isn't going on every trip with us.

Our DS just graduated from High School yesterday. He is going to a school far away from us in Atlanta.

Not sure how we will feel going to Disney without him. Even though he will be home another two months, there is a big empty feeling in my stomach as it has now hit us that our only child is about to leave the coup. Anyone else have this feeling with kids just graduating?

My only child is having his first double digit bday this year and I'm already having that feeling! I have many pictures at my desk at work of various WDW trips and can see how he's growing so fast. We've started a spring break tradition and will be traveling in December the first time this year which I'm sure will start a new tradition! My DH is an avid pin trader and often goes off on his own. My DS and I love the same attractions and I can't help but wonder what my trips will be like when he's not traveling with us anymore. I'm thinking more restaurants, slower pace, and off season travel again!! :)

we bought when our oldest was a senior in college and our youngest was a junior in college. Skip ahead and youngest is employed full time and oldest just completed his Masters Degree and is employed full time :yay:. Oldest is currently wanting to move out but is waiting on his job to let him know if he is being transferred to an out of state location, they keep telling him they will know in a few months. He works for a government agency so it is going through all the "government red tape". We should be empty nesters in a few months. We are taking the "kids" with us in October for a week, and then staying an extra week followed by our first Disney cruise...I just booked a long weekend in December so we can use our DVC discounted premium pass one more time before it expires!:dance3: That will give us over 30 days off our passes!

We had been several times with the kids before we bought and we enjoy going with them but there is something just as magical when it is just the two of you. Dare I say we find it "romantic". We love our kids but are looking forward to a time when it is just us. We figure that in the future we can enjoy taking any grandkids that may come along....

We purchased BWV in 2000.....our grand kids were fairly young at the time...now graduating hi school and college, marriage.. etc....they along with their parents have had many Disney vacations at the World!

Yesterday I booked BWV for our 50th Anniversary celebration this Dec..'14(married Aug.1964) and a few days at GF...

DH and I vacation every year to the World ourselves and also usually one of the families go each year...

I am 67 and DH is 72....yes... i guess we started our married life out fairly young...

We purchased in 2006 when DS was 11. Had wonderful trips every year and now he is in his first year in college. BUT I set up a trip to WDW at the last minute for New Years Eve and a few more days because he was getting bored at home between semesters. While he rarely got up before 11am, he made a number of requests for rides and events including Fantasmic. We then drove to Atlanta to drop him back at school (Georgia Tech) and flew home to the bitter cold. So we now know he still loves going there and we have never gone there without him. Hopefully next time he will invite a friend so he does not have to hang with us all the time. I told him he could use our points if he and a friend (hopefully a southern belle) want to go there for a short break during school.

We bought almost 4 years ago in our late 50's several years after our last child married. We made 5 trips to WDW last year; 2 just us; one with friends, and 2 with kids and grandkids. Heading to VGC next week, then back to WDW in Feb along with a Fantasy cruise. We've added on 3 times; no regrets! Hope to get the entire crew- all 16 of us- to WDW at the same time next year!

As I stated in a much earlier post, we are emptynesters who love our Disney vacations! We're heading there later this month, just the two of us. And, we're planning on booking a mid/late August stay at BCV with our 12 year old gs before he heads back to school in Sept.....thinking next January we just may spend two weeks...just the two of us.... enjoying the World (DH just retired last week and I'm off work for the entire month of January every year) and then the next year (late 2016 or very early 2017) just may be the big family trip we haven't had for quite awhile (we just may need to add on some more points or maybe look to transfer/rent some points for that trip).....since our three gd's will be turning 3 in late 2016.....our oldest son has twin girls born late Nov 2013 and our daughter has one girl born early Dec 2013.....so we'll be doing the "princess" stuff on that trip....our gs will be almost 16 then ....so we'll have lots of variety of that trip!!

We purchased into DVC when our oldest had just graduated college, DD was in her junior year of college and youngest was in his freshman year of college. We had made three or four trips during Halloween - just the two of us - and had a blast. I took home the brochure one trip and after picking the brain of our guide, Byron, bought in.

Now the youngest son also is a member and DD is looking into it. We have had a great time at the F&W, flower and Garden, eating at the adult restaurants, just spending time together. We have taken friends with us, done trips with our kids and now our five year old grandson. All have been special memories.

Love it!
