Any downside to doing room only, then converting to package??

What I am wanting to do is go ahead and reserve our room at POP for February 08. That way I can start paying towards the trip. I am pretty likely to make withdrawals from a saving account so if I go ahead and book I won't have to worry about "saving" the money.

When the 08 packages come out I want to change my room only to a MYW with dining. My question is Is this allowed? and Are there any reasons why I should not do this??

Hope this is not a silly question, but I cannot think of any reason why I would not want to do this!

To do that you would really be canceling your room only and booking a new package- so the $$ you put towards the room only would be refunded to you. You can tentatively book a basic package until the '08 prices come out- and then they would change the price- at least that way you can pay towards it.

Are you saying that I should go ahead and reserve a MYW package + dining with 2007 dates and then when the 2008 package comes out just change my dates (knowing that the price will probably change, of course)? Sorry to be so dense, but I've not ever done it this way before!

No, what you want to do is call and tell them you want to book a Basic Package. It only includes the room and some other extras, (mini-golf and such). There are no tickets included so it's not a MYW package. You are still required to deposit $200 and you can make payments. When the packages are announced for 2008, usually in July/August, you call again and tell them you want to Modify your basic package to whatever package they are offering, add dining, whatever. You total will change, but there will be no need to cancel first reservation and rebook.

If you make a room-only booking now, when the packages come out and you want one, they will have to cancel your room-only booking, refunding all monies you have on that room, and rebook you with package. It's much more work.

Basic plans for 2008 cannot be booked yet. You have to wait until the 2008 room rates are released. The room rates always come out before the packages. Then you can book the basic plan.

Then when the package offerings are announced and loaded into the system, you can convert to whatever kind of package it is you'd like.

I can book a room only the same way too. Since I like to know my costs before booking, I, personally, would wait if we did a package,otherwise, I will book my room only and wait for the discounts to come out at the end of the year. Just trying to figure out which to do! Leaning toward doing it seperately since we get PH pass dicounts.

When I made my room only reservation, the CM suggested that I wait til the last minute (72 hours before) to add the MYW + dining because the package has to be paid for 45 days in advance and I believe she said it couldn't be cancelled once paid for. I am going during hurricane season and this will give me more flexibility to change dates. I called again and a different CM verified this information.
