I am considering renting points from an owner to book a resort. Just wondering, will I get any documents (through ordinary post) from DVC prior to my stay ?
Or will I just get an email confirmation and that's all ? Also, do I need anything for check-in at all ? Thanks

You are actually renting a reservation since the owner has to make the reservation - you cannot make the reservation yourself and you cannot make any changes yourself all must be done through the owner unless you are a DVC member and the points are transferred into your account. You will get a e-mail confirmation from DVC (via the owner) once the member makes the booking and it will be in your name. I believe you will be able to access the reservation once you have the # on line. Make sure you do not send cash (western union) for any reservation, do some more research and read the stickies on the rent/trade board. Good luck!

DVC does not mail out information packets prior to arrival. What ever the owner sends you is all you would receive.

If you have to owner sign you up for Disney's Magical Express, they would send a packet with luggage tags prior to your stay.

Nothing special is needed for check-in other than a photo id (must be 18 or older to check-in) and a CC if you want room charging.

Definitely do some research so you understand exactly how renting a reservation from a DVC member works. It can be a tremendous savings for you as long as you know exactly how it works. The person you rent from can provide you with both an email and a printed copy of it if you wish. As an owner I have not gotten any printed confirmations for the last reservations I made but maybe it is because I did them online and everything is right there on the screen. They used to send paper confirmations which could take a week to 10 days to get and I would forward that to the renter the couple of times I rented a reservation. Guess now I will have to do it differently if I should rent again. Thanks for the question - it made me think about the way things have changed when renting reservations and how it can affect both sides of the deal.
