Any deals /discounts / thoughts on the Candy Cane Inn?

What I find strange though is that the other posters here don't remember the Crosswalk at W Disney which because it was at a crossroads was slower than one outside the Tropicanna which was just a straight crosswalk across harbour.

I remember the crosswalk at W Disney. I never said there wasnt one. But, I'll also add there is a HUGE difference in those two streets/intersections. The W Disney one that you are claiming has been forgotten, goes in to a parking lot (that is not open all the time). Its not a thru street. Harbor is one of busiest streets in Anaheim! In the last couple of years there have been a few accidents in the cross walk, as people were exiting Disneyland. At least one of them ended in the death of a young child. As far as I know, there have not been simular incidents at the other crosswalk.

I imagine any busy crosswalk has it's dangers, really have to be careful! :)

Another big danger I saw was some of the characters walking down Harbor Blvd or standing around on corners. I'm not talkin Mickey Mouse either. I was happy our room was that close, and even then I felt uneasy sometimes. So I wouldn't really want to walk far down Harbor, especially at night. That is also the difference between a longer walk down DTD and that same distance on Harbor. I feel a lot safer in DTD then I do on the main streets! We usually try to stay onsite when we can for that reason alone. So for us that was another plus to being right across the street, but still you have to keep an eye out.

That's really in any city though to me. I'm not big on walking around the streets, especially at night, not the safest thing to do! Especially if you've got Disney shopping bags in hand. Gotta be safe, and keep an eye out for cars and strangers no matter where you stay! :)

I didn't mean to imply any particular poster had said there wasn't a crosswalk to go through from CCI but if you look back through the postings a couple did. I remembered the crosswalk because you are quite right and I did say it was the entrance to a staff parking but I remember not wanting to cross without the signal because it was really wide (6 lanes) and was busy when I was there.

I am still a little confused why this is such a big deal, myself and others have posted they found the walk too far, surely we are entitled to say that. I know it took me 15 minutes, and others have said 20 surely we can also say that. People don't all walk at the same pace, as I said I felt you could probably power walk it in 10, perhaps if you fluke the crosswalk you could even do it in 7 as someone else said but who really cares, the fact is the CCI is over twice the distance of other closer hotels and that wont change no matter how fast you walk.

I am sorry but I still remain very sceptical of some CCI review postings as I am sure do others.

Your last statement is exactly why its a big deal. If you dont want to stay there that is fine. But to be sceptical and accuse them leaving their own reviews is completely off base. You are giving people negative review of a hotel you have NEVER stayed at! YOu should probably stick with recomending places you have first hand experience with.

I know nothing of anyone making up their own reviews, so I hope no one was thinking I believed that. We've stayed at the Castle Inn which is right across the street from the CCI pretty much. We took the shuttle and even drove in to the park when my feet where hurting badly one day. It was not walking distance for us. I'm sure the CCI is a nice motel, I know the rooms look cute from the pictures. I'm not giving a bad review of a place I've never stayed at. But I am speaking from experience on the distance. I'm not speaking for everyone on that either. My point was "walking distance" will be different for everyone. As walking times can be different as well. I think it's okay to say that the closer options may work out better for those who want as close as possible. That's the only thing I'm saying! :)

As for just all the motels mentioned here, I don't think there is a bad choice really. I think most people will be happy with any of them. I think it's good to hear different experiences and opinions so that a person can decide what fits best for them. I know if it wasn't for the people here telling me that the pool was very small and that there was NO hot tub at the Carousel we would have been unhappy with that part of our stay. It's all in what your looking for, not really anything personal against any one motel, not for me anyway!

I don't believe I have ever said the CCI was a bad Hotel (quite the opposite I believe), but having seen the Hotel first hand inside and out, having walked to the Hotel and hearing and seeing the concerns first hand from our friends who stayed there I do believe I am in a position to put my view on the walking distance and their concerns over the hotel.

Hotels placing bogus favourable reviews on Forums and Travel Sites such as Trip Advisor have been identified, lets face it its not rocket science to do. I have never said CCI was placing their own reviews (although my friends sure do) its just that some reviews here and elsewhere seem a little over the top and I am by nature the suspicious type.

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn and believe it to be a great choice. The rooms were clean, the place was quiet, they include breakfast and have their OWN dedicated air-conditioned shuttle that runs every half hour! We really enjoyed the shuttle, but did walk back late one night rather than wait. It took us about 10 minutes strolling. We did pay for a room in the middle of the complex rather than on the Harbor edge. People who haven't stayed there should not discourage others with their opinions...

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. What I don't think people should do is take motels so seriously or personally! LOL

:cool1: Think I will be tiptoeing around these hotel postings in future, some people very passionate about their favourite hotel :confused3

:confused3 No kidding! I had no idea.

I mean we personally love staying onsite. If we could afford it we'd always stay onsite. You know how many objections I've seen on these boards about that? It's not worth the money, the hotels aren't themed enough, the rooms are too small, the pools aren't as good as WDW's. The walk is too far. And yes some of these people claim to have never stayed onsite. But really I don't care, won't hurt my feelings! They are completely entitled to their opinion. I find it fun to research and I love getting others opinions. I'm the one in the end going to decide what I want to do anyway.

So no I'm not going to go around defending any motel so strongly. The only thing I might defend so passionately is DL itself. If someone had the absolute nerve to say it's not worth going to! ;)
