Any danger to kids eating raw hotdogs?

I just got out of the shower to find DD (3 1/2) sitting on the couch eating a raw hot dog. Do you think it will make her sick?

Cooked or raw, what's the diff? It's a hotdog.

As long as they were a "normal" supermarket brand and had been stored properly she'll be fine. Hotdogs are fully cooked and are just heated for taste purposes.

I get Oscar Mayer turkey franks and they are fully cooked. My kids eat them "raw"/cold all the time.

I agree. 99% store bought hotdogs are Pre Fully Cooked

I just opened them today so they are fresh. I just got worried when I read on the package CAUTION: Heat throughly before consuming.

I agree with others, hot dogs aren't really raw just cold! Kinda like bologna in my mind. My oldest ds is 23 and has eaten "cold" hot dogs for most of his life. Along with cold Chef Boyardee straight out of the can.

She will be fine!

Thanks, I won't worry about it then. I don't even like to eat hot dogs when they are hot so the thought of eating it cold just grossed me out.

cold Oscar Meyer is the only hot dog I will eat. Nearly 32 years and I haven't gotten sick yet.

Alright, since no one is going to say it, I guess I will.

The "danger" from "raw" hotdogs, is not have anything to do with "raw".

Actually it is a bacteria called Listeria. This can be on ANY deli meats, veggies, etc... including baloney.

It is recommended to boil hot dogs to kill Listeria. However, you don't do it with deli meats so it is really pointless.

And just to add a little more drama....the biggest danger is that a hotdog is the most choked on food for small children because it is roughly the same size as their airway. If it gets lodged in there, well, its difficult to get out. Happy thursday.

My son is 15 and raw is the only way he has EVER eaten a hotdog. It has neither made him sick nor killed him yet.
