THE HAT said:wow ok....let's see....ummmmmat a loss here....for what it is worth i am going to give my op.......
we are atheists, we are also good people.. who give to our community, and to others less fortunate. we live our life in the old adadge of, treat others how you want to be treated. we judge no one for their beliefs, and we feel it is what is wonderful about this country, that we have the right to believe how we want to, or not.
i know plenty of atheists who are wonderful people, and some who are not so wonderful, just as i know (and am related to) some wonderful christians, and some not so wonderful ones.
do i feel that the starter of this innocent thread would want to set up a greet and meet with us, prob not...but if we were to be sitting by the pool and started talking,, and the kids started playing, do i think that they would grab them, and run screaming from us...not one bit...as we would never do that either. when i meet new people the first thing i ask isn't, so what are your beliefs? it is hi, i am.....nice to meet you, this is my dh...and my son.....
never once was it stated that they didn't want to meet anyone of other beliefs, or non believers...just wanting to meet some people they have a connection with. and maybe discuss their same religion. would they want to meet up with dh hubby and myself, as we head to rose and crown for an ale..prob not. that isn't something they do. just like if someone asked hey want to get together and have some tofu..people who don't care for tofu aren't going to meet up and go out to eat with them.
did anyone try and say, well i am not christian, but i will be there the same time, and would love to meet you. as atheists we are judged as being "bad" people. where we, (my family is all i am speaking for, as i have no right to speak for others) are actually very big hearted, kind, caring, and giving, and seem to always judge less then others, as we are always on the other side, and know how it feels.
life is to short......can't we all just get along![]()
thanks for this post. I particularly think that you hit the nail on the head with the part I highlighted. Thank you for taking this thread at face value and not automatically thinking that the OP has something against non-Christians. Like I and others have said, this is really not much different than someone saying, "Any other Yankees fans...?" or "Any childless couples...?" etc. It really stinks being judged for any reason, but the OP was not doing that at all. Some people just can't leave well enough alone though

Have a wonderful night!
