Any Chance of a YC DVC?

Now, before anyone flat out states "no", I suggested a while back that since WLV was so popular, that maybe Disney should just build more villas. I was told that this was "impossible". Ahem.

I would certainly love the idea of villas at YC. Would they use any of the land across the street from the current resort? Convert some of the resort rooms to DVC? Do you think it's doable?

I can't answer your questions but I think anything is possible. We purchased BCV based on that fact that we liked staying at YC.

I doubt they convert any of existing YC to DVC, because YC does one thing that is even more profitable over time than DVC: Conventions. It's one of the prestige convention hotels. The primary convention hotels are GF, CR, YC and CSR. There are only 621 rooms at YC to start with, although conventions also use the 583 at BC proper.

Grand Floridian, they built new buildings to be DVC, so they didn't reduce existing convention capacity; same is true at CR. It would be profit-limiting for the convention center associated with BC/YC to convert additional rooms there. If the nearby land is buildable (hey, most of Disney is swampland), building NEW villas might be an option.

The way BCV is stuck in the back of the resort is bad enough-- to put YCV across the street from the main pool would be a big deterrent for sales IMO. --- no lake view unless they build another lake and main pool area. I think it is unlikely.

Unknown, it's all about profit, supply and demand. Seems like DVD can build what they want, where they want at WDW and it will sell eventually.

I don't know about YC, but I bet they could build another resort closer to Hollywood Studios. That's would make a lot of sense to me.

I'm sure as we speak, that there are definitely more DVCs in the works.

Even though I would love a YC DVC, just looking at the map of the area, I don't see how, unless the parking area is reclaimed for just such an endeavor. Also, further back behind the parking lot is the big Mickey Solar field, and I highly doubt that will be moved, athough never say never with Disney. I believe a solar field is portable?

There is still some real estate near Hollywood Studios for a brand new DVC, as supersnoop has suggested.

Even cooler still would be another deluxe resort/dvc near the Magic Kingdom. Plenty of real estate available, near the Grand, and plenty back over by Bay Lake as well.

Just wishing there was some way to create "more" of the Yacht Club, or re-vamp it somehow.

FWIW, Wilderness Lodge has never been particularly popular among the masses. Resales asking prices of BCV and BWV are consistently higher that VWL, and that's with both of those resorts having more points available. And WL allegedly has one of the lowest occupancy rates among Disney's Deluxe hotels, thus the reason they were willing to sacrifice hotel rooms for villas.

Not saying that WL doesn't have its fans but if popularity were a top criteria for these decisions, we'd undoubtedly see more villas at the likes of Grand Floridian, Contemporary, BC, Boardwalk...maybe even those Yacht Club villas before an addition to WL.

Regarding Yacht Club, I think Disney has now demonstrated that they can convert hotel rooms to villas in some way, shape or form at pretty much any property. Yacht Club is a popular convention site and there have been many internal battles about whether they should allow rooms to be changed to villas or leave it as solely a high-end hotel. Expect those discussions to be revisited whenever it comes time to commission a new DVC construction project.

A few years back there was a rumor about converting Poly and VWL rooms to DVC and that revealed to be true. The same rumor stated that YC would be the only Deluxe resort hotel "safe" from DVC conversion because Disney doesn't want to mess with the Conventions business. If 2/3 of the rumor was true, probably the remaining 1/3 is true too. Even more now that hotel attendance is higher than 2 years ago.

DVC is good money, but it's not the constant flow of cash the conventions at the Convention Center near YC is. The challenge of DVC is that most of the profit margin is in the upfront sale. Conventions are a constantly renewing stream of joy that includes catering, private events, etc. You HAVE to cater via Disney when your event is at YC. There's additional $$ in special events for attendees.

You've got to have sufficient hotel rooms available on-site to pack the convention center; most conventions will also contract with off-site hotels as well, especially to get GSA rates, but want most of their attendees to have the option to be near the center.

I loved the few days we spent at YC this Christmas.

I think the YC must be very popular with the boomer generation. I chuckled as I went through the gift shop.. I've never seen so much Disney resort clothing geared to the 50+ crowd.
It will be interesting to see if the demographics change in the next few decades.

Well, I don't pretend to have the Disney knowledge that most of you do, but it's certainly fun to imagine what will come next with DVC or resorts in general. I'm eagerly awaiting.

I've always thought a villian-themed DVC would be perfect near HS.

re: YC DVC ... I think it would make more sense to expand BC and leave YC alone. That parking lot behind the BCV building would be a good spot for a new building. That would place the DVC pool in an alcove of sorts. They could also convert regular rooms to DVC. The new WL might be a test for having 2 DVCs in the same resort. If it works, I'd expect BCV to be the next expansion project with a separate association.

Yes. In the plans for additional DVC what I saw about a year ago was WL adding rooms and cabins and I reported over a year ago, Addition of the River Country DVC resort, Converting sections of CBR over to DVC with a waterway connecting into Epcot, Conversion of some of the Yacht Club rooms and further expansion of the Polynesian.

I hope! I was looking for places to stay w/a big group for our next trip and as I went down the list from places near the Magic Kingdom to near Epcot, I had to skip The Beach Club cuz it always feels like cheating to think of staying there. The Y.C. is like my third home; I got married there; I would LOVE if they had some D.V.C. rooms, as long as it didn't change the way I feel about The Y.C. in a bad way.

YC is very doubtful because that is a convention hotel. I have seen things for a BC addition, as well as more conversion at other resorts including Moderate.

I don't think you will see it happen soon but it is in the plans to add some to YC but it sounded like they won't add any buildings, just convert rooms. Maybe a small DVC similar to the Grand Californian.

It'd have to be.

They milk DVC for money, but it just doesn't have the prolonged funky flow of convention traffic. That's why VGF and BLT were additions, not conversions. Gotta keep that convention center full, the overpriced catering flowing, and the event planners busy.

What about the parcel they just applied for the classification change on from wetlands to buildable? Just outside epcot and next to BCV, (in the woods) with the monorail track running through? That would be a great new location-- and the first Epcot monorail resort.....
