Fed up with the contunious release of greatest hit/ best of albums?
They all have the same songs on, how many do we need to buy?
It feels like they release one every year!

I love Aerosmith however I wish they would stop releasing the same stuff year after year, I just hope that it the record company behind it and not Aerosmith.

There are a lot of reasons things like this are done. Sometimes it's to fulfill a contractual obligation with a record label that the band wants to or has left.

For example: Creed had a five CD deal with Wind-Up Records. When Scott Stapp was in effect kicked out of the band after the first two records and the remaining members of Creed (sans Brett Hestla) formed Alter Bridge while Stapp decided to go solo, Wind-Up allowed the band to fulfill their obligation by releasing one "Greatest Hits" CD, and a CD for each of the two new entities. That fulfilled their obligation.

If I'm not mistaken, the deal that Aerosmith signed was for Columbia, who they are back with after spending a few years in Geffen's stable, was for ten CD's. Columbia has the rights to all of the original releases, up to Permanent Vacation, and then again from Just Push Play forward. Releasing box sets and Greatest Hits compilations in this case serves three purposes.

1. It helps fulfill contractual obligations faster, and those guys aren't getting any younger.

2. It helps to introduce a "Classic Rock" band to a new potential audience, because it puts the CD into the front window or "New" section of the store where people looking for new material/artists often browse and also gets their music into the listening portals now found in many stores. (You often have to buy your way into those, and access is generally reserved for CD's released in the past six months.)

3. It keeps the band fresh in their fans minds between new original releases.

Hope this helps!

SO, dd, one of her friends, and I went a couple weeks back to see Aerosmith and Motley Crue in concert. I was a great concert, but I am partial to their older music anyway. However, I do have to say, Motley Crue put on a much better show than Aerosmith!

Was Tommy Lee or Will Hunt on drums? I love watching both, but they have very different playing styles. Tommy Lee's spinning drums cage solo on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour was the single most impressive things I've ever seen in a live show. And I've seen a lot of live shows!

PS--Anyone who is totally into watching great drumming styles (not neccesarily technically superb, just great style) should check out Robb Rivera from Nonpoint, Morgan Rose from Sevendust, and Tommy Stewart from Godsmack/Lo Pro as well as the two mentioned up top. :thumbsup2

It was Tommy Lee, he was very, very good! Although, we were so far away, it could have been this guy :rockband: and I wouldn't have known LOL. We didn't know until we got there if Tommy was going to be there or not, so it was a great treat for us. Of course, dd wasn't concerned about anything except for Nikki Sixx LOL
