Any advice or thoughts on 2020 Thanksgiving week?

We need to cancel our August trip 😭. Not willingly, but because of a quarantine in our state.
I was thinking Thanksgiving week if there are no restrictions.
Do you think the virus will still be this bad? Do you think crowds will be lower that week maybe? I know it’s hard to predict, but what’s your guess?
Any thoughts or advice?

Crowds will likely be lower than in Thanksgiving weeks of previous years. Perhaps more your reservation to dates that work in November and revisit your thoughts early October?

We are going just before Christmas. Two members of our party are from NY. We are anxious about restrictions getting lifted. Hoping Dec is far enough out.

I hope the restrictions are lifted for you and us. I’m so disappointed ☹️.
I thought about going in October also. Thanksgiving week would be better with school.

It is so hard to say. It will probably be more crowded than most other weeks, but a lot will depend on the virus and also if Disney alters park hours or capacity levels. Everything is so up in the air right now. Just got back and it was not crowded at all except Hollywood studios which in my opinion is already about at capacity. So if that is a super import park to your crowd, you might pause.

I think there may be a pent up energy that will explode with the later part of the year. Of course, this is dependent on virus numbers shrinking.

Thanksgiving week is better than the two Christmas weeks to go there based on past history. I would say it will be a busier week. With the right planning it should be manageable.

Going early to the parks is always a good strategy to follow.

Crowds may not be bad, but everything I'm reading suggests the virus will still be a huge problem. We had a trip to the Caribbean planned for late this year but I doubt that's going to happen because everything keeps getting pushed.

Yeah I’m not going to get my hopes up for November. I did make reservations but may make some for next year

We REALLY want to go back to Disney--it's been about 4 years now, and our family always looked forward to the next trip. We had a July trip planned for this year that we canceled in the spring, and I'm hoping to reschedule for Fall 2021. Waiting to see how things play out with the virus, and for some Disney discounts since there's zero chance we are paying rack rates at this point.

We tend to visit the week after Thanksgiving frequently, and went on Thanksgiving day for a 10 night stay in 2019. It was different in that RotR had it's grand opening, so crowds were higher than normal. Obviously a long trip with multiple days in ea. park, but we were able to go on everything we wanted multiple times without too much trouble. We enjoy the Christmas decor and EP storytelling. It is more expensive in terms of hotels and flights, and while not as crowded as Christmas/NYE, it's considered peak crowds with all of the time off of school, the holiday events... a desirable time to go.

Personal guess is that COVID will still be an issue, the restrictions and lack of fireworks, shows, water parks will continue. Processional and storytelling may not happen given the crowding. That being said, we didn't cancel our Sept trip, and we also haven't canceled our DL trip in Dec.

I did go before Christmas 2010 and I love seeing all the Christmas decorations. That’s when they still had the Osborne lights! So pretty. It was a record cold that year and we froze but had fun.
So I thought we would try going maybe Thanksgiving week this year because I hate for my granddaughter to miss school.
We decided since we have to cancel our August trip we are going to go ahead and go November, if the virus doesn’t mess things up.

Personal guess - if you are happy with the way park operations (bare bones experiences) are right now - go ahead and plan for Thanksgiving. If you don't mind the work of rescheduling, go head and plan. The truth is nobody knows. I'd guess not much will change with Disney operations between now and then. Maybe a few more people, maybe not.

We go every year so we wouldn’t mind how things are now with no fireworks, parades etc..

Without actually having gone our Sept trip yet, it seems to me that Disney is doing about what you can expect to maintain our safety... probably safer than going to my local grocery store. My closest Disney friend decided to skip this yr not because of concern at WDW, but because of the airports/airline, and because she goes with her elderly mom. They just decided to go in March 2021 instead of their usual Oct. trip. Part of our decision to not cancel is because we booked flights with non refundable miles/rewards, the thought of those low crowds is enticing enough for us to overlook the lack of parades/fireworks/shows, we have use it/lose it vacation time, no kids yet, etc. We're Disney addicts, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 20% or whatever limited capacity never happens again in my lifetime. So we'd personally go. But definitely an individual decision.

We definitely miss Osborne lights too. We made sure to go the last yr in 2015. Our "it's A Wrap" shirts are covered with about 50 character autographs.

Probably mentioned but it'll be cooler in late Nov/early Dec vs. August, with having to wear masks. We're taking 2 dozen disposables and our cloth ones for backup if they break/gets rained on since they're lighter/less warm for our Sept. trip. They updated the mask policy again, but didn't look like they excluded the disposables yet. Although it would be better for them if they can just require you to buy Disney ones.

Oh I know what you mean, missing out on the low crowds is killing me! I doubt we will ever have a chance like this again.

I’ve heard that they’re small. Are there various sizes for adults or just one size doesn’t fit all?

I have some masks that were made for me with ear loops that were too tight. We put them around something bigger for a while and the loops are now stretched out enough to not tug my ears forward. I no longer look like the Mad TV guy.514014

I got smalls for my kids, they only JUST BARELY fit my 2 year old, they are like doll sized. Then I ordered from Mediums from ebay for my 4 year old, and they fit perfect. Adults should get a large unless you feel like you have a child sized face.
