I have to be on an EXTREMELY restricted diet for the next few weeks for medical testing; I'm going to give myself a few days to recover, and then start SB; Compared to the first diet, phase 1 of SB will be a breeze.

Any tips, favorite recipes, etc?

Go to www.lowcarbfriends. They have an awesome message board and LOTS of great recipes. There is a place for comments on the recipes and I always read those before I try anything.

South Beach has their own website. I tried it in Jan and lost about 30 pounds. I went off and am just starting back. It is a life style change.

I eat a diet similar to South Beach, but not for weigth loss. I eat this way for heart health. Dr. Agatston, a cardiologist, originally wrote SB for his heart patients.

I follow cardiologists Dr Davis's heart healthy plan. He has an interesting blog with many health, and weight loss tips that might be of help.

South beach diet is a great way to eat and live healthy. I have PCOS and the doctor recommend this diet for me. I am a carb freak and has really gotten me over my carb cravings. I have a blog that I have been keeping track of my progress etc. http://fitanfab40.blogspot.com/ I am a pretty slow loser and I live by the eat clean 80% of the time rule. There are a few other people on this board that also do South Beach as well but there is a small thread in same place.

I have PCOS too and I wonder if you saw results during the first two weeks? They claim 8 pounds up to ...I forget what they said, but I wondered if it was less for someone with PCOS. I don't want to get discouraged during the first two weeks if it WILL help eventually.

The first time I did South beach 5 years ago I lost 6lbs this time when I restarted in May I lost 3lbs however I had been eating pretty decent just watching my calories. I am also a very slow loser.

we borrowed the south beach book from a friend, I highly recommend getting a copy from the library & browse through it. I don't know what PCOS is so I can't comment on how it affects Phase 1 but results vary per person obviously. Since April I've lost 35 & DH has lost 42. Although I've gained 4 of it from some excessive partying at our house recently for birthdays & anniversary. But that's what I like about South Beach. If you fall off the wagon, you just jump back on. We were on vacation the first part of August & I gained on the trip, got home & back on South Beach & had the gain off in a week. I'm hoping for the same luck this time.

But on Phase 1, I lost about 13 pounds & DH lost 12, but we have a lot we need to lose (100 lbs). Since then he's losing more but he uses a treadmill 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week and sometimes he'll jog on the weekends. So exercise clearly accerlates your results, at least it has for him.

So I guess I'm saying is I think it WILL help eventually, even if you don't lose a lot on phase 1, what it does is help you rid your body of excessive sugars and carb cravings. My experience has been that it is easier to resist things you shouldn't have once you are on it a while, but I won't kid you that those first 2 weeks are rough. Good luck :cheer2:
