Any adults done a Disney Cruise (no kids)

I don't have kids...

I have done several DCL cruises.

Are they my favorite??? well.. it depends. Ships are very nice, theme is great etc... Price point is driving me away. Unless things REALLY impress me on the Dream I expect it will be my last. I don't see the "service" differenence folks claim on here. The service is good, it's been good on other lines too!

I think that other cruise lines I have taken are a better match for me, but everyone's feelings are different. (And the Dream's "adult pool" area may be the final blow)

however, to come on HERE and expect a response besides "Disney is better" is unrealistic. 99.9% of the posters on here would be for Disney. Post this same query on say RCCL board and get the exact opposite response... LOL! While SOME posters have done other lines a lot of the "cheerleaders" have only done Disney. I actually felt this way until I did another cruise line... "How can it be better then this" and then went to "why am I paying that much more?" :)

The other thing to consider is ports. IMHO that's where Disney really is hurting ESPECIALLY on the short cruises. I am OVER Nassau and I actually like to see something besides the ship!

thanks for all the feedback! i am going to start looking into the cruise options more in depth.

thanks again!

Go for it! My wife and I have been on 4 cruises., all Disney. The first was for our 40th anniversary, and the last, through the Panama Canal. One time we took family, and none of them were kids, and not all were "Disney fans". Only have two more planned, and we need to fix that.

I didn't even notice the kids on board except for when i wanted to notice them ... at character photo shoots and the shows. It's fun to watch kids and their expressions.

This past year, we went to travel agents to ask about cruises ... and they didn't know we had already been on a Disney Cruise. Whenever we asked them about the Disney cruises, they would tell us we'd hate them, too many children, too expensive and then try to get us to buy Princess. Especially Princess ... They get rather quiet when we mention that we loved DCL. But then they get right back on trying to shove Princess at us. I began to suspect that they were being motivated by the size of commission or kickback than to what we were looking for on a cruise.

Their relentless cheerleading for Princess and quick dismissal of DCL (the cruise line we really wanted to cruise on) cost them a DCL commission. Too bad for them.

21 cruises with DCL and none with kids as we are the "kids" now. We have taken our grown children a couple times. We have also done Carnival, NCL, RCCL and keep doing Disney. We are getting tired of the same ports and await the 2012 itineraries and hopefully some longer and different itineraries.

The time of year will also dictate how many kids are on board. We avoid high "kid" season. The January Panama crossing had around 300 and we have been on one with close to 1000 kids so that can really make a difference in seeing and hearing kids but like the previous posts state you can stay in the adult areas and really avoid children. I don't mind being around kids but if you do then either book a longer cruise with DCL when school is in session or try a different cruise line. I really like RCCL.

My wife & I sailed back in 2006 on the wonder with no kids, and it was great . We had sailed in 03&04 with kids which was not bad at all . And even if you did have kids it is not much different with with all the clubs and shows that keep kids of all ages busy ,you don't see them much any way .The only real difference for me anyway is the cost, the more family you bring the more it cost .

My sister and I did a Disney cruise for my 40th birthday and had an awesome time. There are plenty of places that are adults only if you really don't want to be around the kids. We would do it again in a heartbeat. We were looking for a family atmosphere even though we did not bring our families so we could relax by ourselves. Disney is the perfect place!

DCL is great for only adults. The wife and I have done 2 without kids, taking the little one on his first this summer.

My DH and I (both in our 50's) have no kids and have been on 3 Disney without kids. We love it. There are plenty folks onboard without children. Go and have fun!!!

:thumbsup2 Getting ready for our 4th.
If you're looking for casinos and toga parties, you won't find them on a Disney cruise.
But you will have a good time. The ships are not a floating day care. There are plenty of things to do and see. I love kids, don't get me wrong but I don't want to be with them 24/7.
Why not order a planning video and see for yourself,it's free!
But in the end,the final decision is up to you. It's all in what you want.

I've been on six Disney cruises, not one of them with kids. Depends on what YOU like, not on what your travel agent says they think everyone else likes. If you are into Disney entertainment you'll probably enjoy many aspects of a Disney cruise no matter what the makeup of your party is.

One of the biggest complaints about DCL I see on non-Disney boards is about being surrounded by Disney, they play Disney music all the time and everything has Mickey Mouse on it. If you're a Disney fan all this stuff is a plus. However, if you'll really miss the casino, pick another line because the closest thing DCL has on board is bingo.

I totally agree that I've had a great time on my Disney cruises without my kids....BUT....an important thing to remember is that if you are a "couple"....husband/wife....two or more friends going together, etc....it's a different experience than just one single male adult going alone, or a single gal going alone.
If I went all by myself, without my husband, kids or friends, I think it would be a whole different story. And I am a true Disney lover.

We have no kids and have been on 4 Disney cruises. The last was the PC. I have 2 more booked!

This is a great thread to read for me as it's just DH and I cruising for the first time in Sept. on the Dream. I love all things Disney so I can't wait.

First, let me state that I love everything Disney as do the majority of the posters here. That said you are going to get a biased perspective from many of the DIS posters. My DH and I went on the Magic in ‘99 for our honeymoon after being assured that there were many things to do on board and that if we stayed in the adult area we would never even encounter children. This was not the case. Children were everywhere!!! We were even seated with a family of five from Australia. Talk about a mismatch! Looking back, I wish I had selected a different cruise line for my honeymoon.

Now that I am a mother of a wonderful 9-year-old daughter, we have cruised Disney twice and are going again in June. For us vacations are a family experience, and we love the Disney cruise line for family vacations. When my husband and I want to vacation on our own, I prefer other cruise lines. It all depends on what you want out of your vacation. Have a wonderful vacation!

I would not recommend a Disney cruise to a single male. There is just nothing to do but lay around. The DCL is a family cruise ship and heavily leans toward making the families happy. Maybe a single female would enjoy it more if she could find a place to lay-out on the ship.

Personally, I think part of the magic of these particular cruises is getting to be a fly on the wall (albeit a rather large one :-) and seeing first hand the sheer unadulterated joy in a little one's face when they come upon their favorite character walking on the deck; Or watching a tiny girl twirling just to make her princess dress spin; Or having a pint sized Jack Sparrow challenge you to a duel. But most of all it is seeing loving families enjoying their time together and remembering what it was like when you were that little princess or pirate and the world was a friendly and magical place.

P.S. Whether you are traveling with kids or without, in a large group or flying solo, I highly recommend popping over to the Cruise Meets thread once you choose your sailing. There you will find other Dis'ers who will be sharing your journey and who will make the trip even more special and fun.

Very nicely said. When I see these things it reminds me of my children's reactions and warms my heart now as it did then.

I so agree with this, I love watching the kids. I'll be on cruise number 11 before I finally have children along with me. Can't wait to experience DCL from this new perspective.

Ray, since you are a Disney fan (DLR, WDW, Disney movies), I really think you will enjoy a DCL cruise. And to top it off there are the adult areas where you can enjoy a :drinking1with the friends you've made from the 'meets' forum for your cruise! :thumbsup2 AND if you choose the 11/6/11 Dream cruise, I have a 31 year old single neice who's coming along....:rolleyes1
.

We just got home from our child-free 7-night MR honeymoon on the Wonder and had a fantastic time.

I am sailing on the Eastbound transatlantic in May.--SOLO. Leaving husband and kids at home. I know I will have a terrific time. this is my 4th DCL cruise and I have another one booked in Aug.

I echo your sentiments. DCL lacks scheduled, onboard activities for adults on port days, so for someone like me who isn't interested in lounging by the pool or going to the spa - there's not a lot to do. Sorry - but going to the afternoon DVC presentation for lack of anything else to do is not the kind of activity I prefer! I learned my lesson on my first DCL cruise, and now I save all my Disney movie viewing for port day afternoons.

I have to disagree. I went on the TA last fall and had a great time by myself. Of course I had fantastic tablemates that I met on the cruise and was always seeing them around the ship. I did excursions on my own and once again didn't have a problem finding someone to talk to. As long as you aren't a total wallflower, you should have a great time!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

After 4 DCCL cruises with the kids, we did one without the kids this past fall. It was wonderful and we look forward to doing it again.

It's funny how some may think there is nothing to do. We had two other couples at our dinner table. It was each of theirs first DCL cruise. On night four, one couple asked how we do it with kids as there is just too much to do and this couple never went to the pool areas. It's all perspective as my DW thought the same about Princess- nothing to do onboard for the under 60 crowd. I'm sure there was plenty- just nothing that interested her.

I think it would be hard to travel solo on any vacation but lots of people do it. It's not for me though so I couldn't recommend or not recommend any vacation but I must have missed the post about traveling solo.
