Last night, Norton reported that DD's PC had been infected by Antivirus XP 2008.

AntiVirXP08 , also known as Anti Vir XP 08, is one of the latest counterfeit antispyware that devastates the wolrd wide web. AntiVirXP08 is a variant of XP Antivirus or WinAntivirusPro. AntiVirXP08 usually come up after you installed a video codec that come with Trojan, malware and virus. AntiVirXP08 normally generates fake and misleading system popup error messages so end-users will be tricked into purchase AntiVirXP08.

Norton reported it, but could not remove it. I did a search on it and found some manual instructions to remove it. I tried deleting all the files as per the instructions. It did not remove it. I finally ended up buying Spyhunter. It appears to have removed everything, but she is still having one problem.

She cannot change the theme on her PC. She can go to a picture and do a save as background, but she cannot save a theme via the Control Panel. The tab under the control panel that controls the screensavers and such is gone.

Has anyone else experience this or have any ideas on how to fix this issue? Other than this one thing, everything else appears to be working okay.

Thanks!

I had it a few months ago and it was a real pain in the butt to get rid of. You can find all sorts of "fixes" on the web, but all they do is try to sell you their software, which won't work, anyhow. I did print and try a fix that was posted for free, but that just left me at a dead end.

I finally got rid of it once and for all by finding it on my C drive inventory, right-clicking it, and clicking on delete. It was that simple. The hard part was finding it. I can't remember if I found it under programs or the C drive listings in "My Computer." I think it was the latter, though. Haven't had any problems since. The one thing I did not do is say yes to any of the prompts in the constant pop-ups.

So:

- Locate it in your hard drive
- Right-click on it
- Click on delete
- Click yes to complete the deletion

Hope it works for you. :)

Two people I know had this problem. They were both able to get rid of it using malwarebytes.org's anti-malware program.

Important Note: I am not associated with malwarebytes.org, didn't use it myself, and recommend you proceed with caution.

my ds downloaded music on my computer. This poped up all the time. I had no clue how to fix it. i am going to hook the computer back up and try to fix it. :)
