OK, I ned help from anyone out there who, like my husband, HATES onions; or from anyone who has traveled with an onion-hating friend or relative. ;)
My DH absolutely HATES onions... if he finds even so much of a hint of onion in his food, his meal is spoiled. So I was looking at the menus over at allearsnet for the restaurants we have chosen for our ADRs, and there are several food choices I think he would enjoy IF we can ask for the onions to be left off. Please let me know if you have ever ordered any of the following items, and successfully asked for them with NO onions.
At Le Cellier for lunch: 10 oz. New York Strip Steak - with sauteed leeks, frisee, and roasted Yukon potatoes and finished with veal demi-glace. (Yes, I know, they are leeks... but for him, leeks are close enough to onions that he won't eat them either.)
At Whispering Canyon for breakfast: Everything on the menu seems to come with "red bliss potatoes with sauteed onions", can you have the potatoes made without the onions?
At Captain Cook's over at the Poly: Stir-fried Noodles - chicken and vegetables with Udon noodles in lemon-grass infused sauce garnished with fried wontons. Do the veggies in the stirfry include onions?
TIA for help with picky hubby! :sad2:

Your DH and I appear to be kindred spirits, at least where onions are concerned. Love things cooked with onions, can't stand the things themselves.

Generally, you can request most things where onions are just piled on top to be made without. However, if its something where the onions are an integral part of the meal (like lasangna for instance) then you're out of luck. Does he have a problem with even seeing onions? If not, the leeks with the steak and such can probably just be pushed aside. Finally, with regard to the WCC breakfast, I highly suggest the bottomless skillet. He can ask for it without the potatoes or, if you want to share and you want them in, they don't really touch the other foods too much.

If he's like me, he can push the onoins (or peppers for me) aside. In potatoes, or stir fry etc...

Happy eating:goodvibes

My dh cannot eat anything with onions. I used to think it was him being picky, but it makes him physically ill and he can taste them even if he can't see them. For example, if McD's instead of making a new burger just scrapes off onions on a burger, he can taste it.

What he does is just to ask if there's any onions in an entree he's considering. At Prime Time, he had the pot roast, which normally includes onions. His had none. I can't think of any other specific place where he talked to the server about the onions, but I think at most places, if you ask, it can be prepared without them. I thought for sure it would be a no on the pot roast (thinking it was probably all prepared together), but he got it with no onions, so they did work some magic there.

Im the same way. Raw onion is way to strong to just srape off. The flavor will permeate the ketchup in 30 seconds :scared:

That is exactly how my husband is too.
Funny story; when he was a kid, his mom (who loves onions and wanted the flavor of them in things) thought he was just being picky, and if he couldn't see or find any onion pieces he would be OK. So she put the onions through a juicer! She froze the rusulting juice in ice cube trays and hid them in the chest freezer. Then, when she was cooking something and wanted the onion flavor, she would throw in a couple of juice cubes. It didn't work... even though he could see perfectly well that there were no chunks of onions in his food, he KNEW the flavor was there and refused to eat it. Then, one morning, he came into the kitchen and caught mom tossing ice cubes into the hash browns. The jig, as they say, was up.

Thanks for the input! I am sure we will just have to be very careful and ask the servers if onions are in what he wants to order, and if he can get the dish without them. He will survive. :) It's Disney, after all.

Your husband is not picky. He just knows what he likes.

This is coming from a woman whose husband special orders his McDonalds burgers with just ketchup and pickles but then picks off the pickles before eating the burger because he likes the pickles but doesn't want his burger to crunch.

disney is usually pretty good about substituting items or making something "plain".I am a onion-hater too .Very picky. As you may have noticed many breakfast buffets have potatoes with onions- I was at Donald's Breakfastosaurus and requested hash browns w/out onions. And Cape may buffet @Beach club has onions in potatoes. Also was able to get special potatoes for breakfast.Hey just ask.
