I read that Eric Ripert was the person who found him. Bourdain was very open about his addictions, who knows what goes on in people’s minds.

They were hilarious together always.

I loved them together too. What an awful memory to have to carry with you.I'm sick over Ripert finding him. One of my favorite TV moments is those 2 working the line in a kitchen in NYC. They were hilarious together always.
That's more or less how I found out about Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. I was listening to an alternative rock station and they said "Next up a tribute to Chester Bennington's life" and I thought "huh? wait what" and googled it.In the car I heard something about a segment coming up called “The Life and Death of Anthony Bourdain”.
“What, what?? Did I just hear right??”
Sadly, I did.
Shocking, to say the least.
May he RIP.
Reports indicate he and his GF may have broken up last week.I literally screamed at my PC when I opened CNN.com this morning. I followed him on Twitter. This is such a shock. I never would think someone who can write with strong words, seems so confident, so content in his life will do this to himself. Plus, he was very vocal about the MeToo. I feel bad for his GF. And his daughter too. Why oh why.

I have all the sympathy in the world for people that suffer from mental illnesses. I however have no idea why some people take their lives AND do it in a way that means somebody that knows and loves them will find them! I don't get it.
There was a huge "incident" here years ago in my town where a man committed suicide. Nobody understood it BUT at least the guy tried to make it so his family didn't see his body. He waited till they were off to work and school, wrote his note, went on his front lawn with his gun, called 911 and told them he was shooting himself on his front lawn and then he hung up and shot himself. Granted the police offers had to see that but at least they have some sort of training to deal with this and his wife and kids didn't have to see that.
Why would you hang yourself and leave it to chance that your kid, husband, best friend in the world etc would get to walk in and see the horror of what you did?
No matter what and how it's still all very sad.![]()

Related are people that commit suicide in a way that actually forces someone else to kill them. The best example of this is jumping in front of a train. Now some poor stranger has to deal the rest of his life with the guilt of having killed someone even though they had no way to avoid it. All the other talk about suicide not withstanding that is a very crappy thing to do to someone no matter how much you personally are suffering.

What you guys aren’t getting (and I’m not blaming you for that) is that when you are so low, in such dispair, feeling helpless, you AREN’T thinking about those things. At least, that’s my understanding from talking with my husband. He’s not thinking ‘gee, this will be awful for my wife’ he’s thinking ‘I can’t believe I did that thing. I’m so stupid and worthless and don’t deserve to be here.’ The voice responding is telling him he’s right, he is useless and everyone would be better off without him.
I can’t comprehend living like this but I’m glad he still fights every day.
I do get that. I'm not talking about suicide in general. I know that is very complex. I'm specifically talking about doing it in a way that literally causes someone else to be involved in your death. I have a good friend who works in the railroad industry and there have been conductors so tormented by people that have jumped in front of their train that it has caused them mental issues. I can't think of another word to describe that than selfish. Not suicide in general, just the mechanism that can hurt an innocent third party either physically or mentally.
That’s what I’m saying though. They don’t think of other people and how they’ll feel. They just know they need the pain to stop.
Isn't that bold sentance the literal definition of selfishness even if it isn't a conscious choice?
In the literal sense, yes. But, I don’t see suicide as selfish, at least I don’t now seeing what the other side is like.
