Unfortuantely, it had nothing to do with them being grownups. It was a party, which meant free booze and neither party could stand the thought that the other might make them the topic of conversation. Told you it was a strange family!

I wouldn't invite any of them, and if they asked me why I'd tell them that I couldn't trust that they'd behave and not ruin my party, so I left them all off the guest list.

That should make a statement to them with regard to what you think of all this ridiculous childish behavior.

Well to be fair, I don't know what they'll do. I just know it's a sticky situation. I'm just joking about fights and police reports -- DH just thinks it will be awkward and that will ruin the party. I hate this stuff.

I think if I were invited to a party that someone I didn't like was going to be at, I'd be thinking it was my decision, not my host's problem.
