Another way to make a little extra cash for our Disney funds

Sorry about that. Thanks. I didn't realize linking to another thread would be against the rules.

I thought it was, but even if I am wrong, I feel they would not like the link that goes to Shared reviews because they deleted all of our shared reviews and expotv usernames since they considered that a referral attempt. I just don't want to cause any problems.

i have a question for you guys because i'm a bit confused. i submitted a review on my dishwasher. i couldn't find my particular dishwasher in the expotv database, so i found it on bestbuy.com and provided a link to it. i only got $2 for that review. i thought the deal was if you provided a link to prove that the product was still available, they'd pay you the full amount for the review - if you could not provide that link, you'd only get $2. did i misunderstand this?

It used to work that way, but expo changed the rules some time ago and stated that every time you provide a link, your video will only be paid $2.00. There is a disclaimer stating this on the page where you provide the link. This really annoys me because sometimes I get busy uploading reviews and revert back to the "old" rule and don't even pay attention to the disclaimer. I have been bitten by that new rule a couple of times myself even though I was aware of it.:sad2:

I didn't even realize it was a new rule, I thought it was always the rule since changes in August! It is a bummer though. Is there still the disclaimer that they "might" pay you in full for it if they "think" you did a good job.

Hey guys,

I am going to give expo a try. My husband is a little skeptical about it, so I was hoping to just do one review for January & when he sees the money actually show up, he might change his mind!?! My question for all of you is when do they stop accepting uploads for January? I know it can take a little time for them to approve your video, but if I get it in before the end of the month will it count for this month? Or say they don't approve it until the month is over, will it get paid with Feb. videos?

Also, I read something a little scary on the expo message boards...that they had to pay 40% tax on their expo earnings because it was considered "contest winnings" or something like that. Has anyone had experience filing taxes with expo income? What was your experience?

I hope I just made sense. It's been a LONG day.
Thank You guys for any info.

Bridget

That's what I did too, I just did a few my first month. Do your dishwasher or washer or something, as long as it's newer, that's in the $10 category. Or a tv. They accept through the 31st and as long as it's uploaded and approved you'll get paid for it.

Watch it - it's addicting!:rotfl:

thanks for the clarification! now i'll know to check their database before i waste my time doing a review that i think is gonna be $5-10, only to find out i only get $2 for it.

Has anyone gotten their 1099 yet? I've been waiting and waiting for mine. I faxed the W9 and got a confirmation printout of it. The message disappeared from my earnings page but I got another email the day after I faxed the form. :confused3

This is the last thing I need before I can file my taxes and I really need to get it done so so I can finish paying off my trip......

i just posted in the forums on expo about this. They now have a sticky saying they will begin mailing them in early february I am TICKED. Don't they HAVE to be mailed by Jan 31st by law.It is all I am waiting on too. If they don't mail them until Feb. i don't feel like waiting. SO FRUSTRATING!!!

OOoh, taxes.

What's this about a 1099 and faxing?

I earned $400+ in September 2007. I assume I need to pay tax on it but I don't know what y'all are on about with the 1099. I know what a 1099, is, but was I supposed to do something to Expo to get it?

THANKS!

I think you're OK. As long as you earned less than $600 you didn't have to file one. This is the way I understood it.

I don't know but I feel your pain. Our appt is Feb 12th and if we cancel we'll be waiting and waiting too. That will not make me happy

I am no tax expert, but we are self employed and we never have to send in our 1099's with our return, so you should be able to do your taxes without it as long as you know how much you made. I would call your tax preparer and ask them if you need it.

I prepare our taxes myself. If I don't have the expo 1099 form by tomorrow I think I am going to go ahead and finish. I have everything else and am all done except for this. I am probably going to classify it as income earned from a hobby. That seems to be the best and easiest way.

Any idea which % it is taxed at?

Well, I am not a tax expert, but I was a banker before my most recent job of stay-at-hom mom! :lmao:

Anyway, here are my calculations: I made around $1700 from expo. I put that under "income earned from a hobby". Then you can deduct any expenses incurred for that hobby. I claimed $500 in expenses. ($300 for high-speed internet, $200 for camera, batteries, charger, etc.) That now brings my income earned from a hobby to right around $1200. And that reduced our tax refund by about $280. So the % is about 23-24%.

Thanks! I don't have to claim for 2007 - but I am sure I will have to for 2008. I will have to keep the hobby thing in mind.

Thanks momof2disneyboys. I was considering just stopping at $600 if I was really going to have to pay 40% of it. With your way, mayb I will do a little more. I really enjoy doing the reviews......January has been my first month, so I'm waiting to make sure that they pay.

Remember that there's still the pay per play... if you get enough of those, they will push over the 600. I'm not sure if any of the bonus things ( like the best video contests ) count for the 600 amount also???
