Here's what it said...
"Dear Members,
The past few months have been an amazing time for ExpoTV! We've seen significant increase in traffic, large levels of video submissions and continued community growth. We are thrilled with this recent success but recognize that this rapid growth has also introduced more frequent -- even mid-month -- changes in our monthly promotions. We know that as our partners in building this consumer video library, these changes make it difficult for you to plan your contribution, so we'd like to shed some light into how we're evolving and why.
CATEGORIES ARE IMPORTANT
As some of you have stated in our forums, a bag of chips just doesn't get researched as much as a new car. Changes in the number and types of reviews we've received has caused us to better refine which products we are looking for from the community. We often don't know how you'll be contributing until we get into the month, so we will try to give you more notice before mid-month changes to the promotions are made.
* So, on Wednesday, August 22nd at 11:59pm EST another adjustment will be
made for the August promotion- Baby & Kids, Sports & Outdoors and Pets will all be
paid out at the $2 rate for the rest of the month.
* And our September Promotion will be based on product sub-categories. We will
institute a 3-tiered ($2, $5, $10) category promotion structure to help us keep the
categories open longer during the month. We'll be providing more information as
the month grows near.
QUALITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEFORE
In order to keep paying at the highest rate possible, we need to reward the vast majority of you who take the time to create smart, easily viewable, helpful videos. Cutting down on accepting videos that are difficult to see, hear, or even understand, is a way we can ensure payments for the videos that really try to help product researchers!
* We will be raising our standards for acceptable video production. Poor audio,
video and out of sync video will no longer be accepted. (Yes, we actually
accepted videos where the video sound didn't match the video picture.) Most of
you don't have to worry about this, but for those of you who haven't thought
much about it, turn on the extra lights, speak up, watch your own video before
you upload it, and upgrade from that $10 webcam. The quality that we accepted
before is not an indication of what will we will accept it in the future.
* Provide useful product information and demonstration. Reviews that don't provide
an adequate level of consumer information can no longer be accepted. The most
helpful product reviews are the ones where members take the time to show a
demonstration of the product, or relay interesting information about the product.
* Check out these great examples for ideas: iHome Clock Radio for iPod and Peg
Perego Car Seat.
THESE CHANGES ARE DISCRETIONARY
We are depending on our reviewers to make these judgments. We want to be fair, so we plan on asking some of our best creators to start reviewing videos too -- so it's really an ExpoTV community effort!
We're also working to give you more feedback about rejections, but if you've been thinking about what you're going to say, and choosing the right setting and gear, you probably won't be affected by any of these changes. The vast majority of you are doing just that!
We hope this helps clarify the changes we've been making. We're in this together, and look forward to growing with our community.
Thanks,
Daphne Kwon CEO"
