Hey Alex.. I am looking for something more challenging for Alex (my Alex... duh..) To read. He is busting through those Junie B Jones books in about an hour or so.. I bought him Captain Underpants, and he seems to like that. Do you have any suggestions for what else we might try?
I have my fingers crossed. Mikalah got her curls from me... but that blond hair.and BLUE EYES??? Come ON!! If I have two more that look like that.. Well, I guess we will just have to keep trying.

Yeah, one of the nurses at the hospital did a double-take with me when she saw ds8. she thought maybe the wrong baby got put in my room. then dh walked in and she went, "ohhhhhh!"
ds4 has more of my coloring, which dh gloats over ("are you sure that was me?"), but i remind him that as soon as ds4 opens that sassy little mouth, everyone knows exactly who his father is.
Alex is the spitting image of his dad... Mikalah is the spitting image hers.. But they must have some of me in there, because I notice similarities between them.
Im not sure what to do with that.

I hated to read as a kid but now I LOVE it. I just bought a book called The Firemaster's Mistress and I only have 2-3 chapters left. I also bought a book called High Tea, which I have to read next.
When I get a new book, I cant stop until Im done with it. Thats why I buy short books.
yeah, ds is the same, so it's hard to know how hard to push. i coaxed him last year to read a harry potter book. he got through it finally, but was very frustrated because there were no pictures and it took weeks to finish the story; so he turned around and read a couple short books in one sitting. i talked to his teacher about that, and she said that was pretty typical when you first move into longer books that you can't finish in one go; the kids will revert to easier books for a bit before tackling another challenging one, and that's fine.We bought him a couple of the MAgic treehouse books, they looked more his speed then Junie B Jones.. He blew through them to fast. Ill have to check out those Cam Jansen books. I have never heard of them.
He got a new reading teacher, and he wants us t push a little more difficult stuff with him at home. He is already in the highest reading class for his grade... and kinda pushing his way past the other kids.

oh, and he loves to read to ds4, so encourage that, too. good for him, and good for mikalah!
i remember doing that, too. i try not to do that now, but got sucked into those twilight books and wound up staying awake much later than i intended, then kicked myself when i finished the story faster than i wanted.When I was little I would stay up all night reading. I still do.
i worry about pushing ds too much. he can read really well, but gets easily frustrated. some books that are at his reading level are about "older" topics that he's really not interested in yet. sometimes i push, and sometimes i don't.
I read the Harry Potter books non-stop.
