Another tiny toy gun in school- this time boy was suspended

I'm aware that most aren't mass shootings - we get to read about plenty of school shootings in Detriot. But really, the threat of suspension is not going to deter the average person who is going to bring a gun to school with the intent to do harm.

I think they use "zero tolerance" as a way to punish "bad kids" as well.

Like a teacher will look the other way when Susie McHomecoming Queen is filing her nails in class. However if Johnny McBullyScary is goofing off and talking about "bombs", let's say, then they can step in a use the policy on that student.

Bottom line, there is nothing fool proof and with all the red tape out there zero tolerance is just another trick in a school's bag.
