another ticket price increase? really?

And guess what!!!!!!!!!!! I MISSED A TICKET!!!!!!!!!! OH CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone has to wait outside!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Why didn't I type this out last week!!!!!!!!!!!

 So embarassed....but HEY! Thanks for helping me!!!!!!!!!!!!! :worship:

Oh no! That is one of those Homer Simpson "D'oh!" :headache: moments. Glad you caught it now instead of later!

We go in less than two weeks, and I am SO glad we bought our tickets earlier this month! Saved our group of 9 a TON of money on the 5-day passes. That's a whole lunch buffet of savings! Maybe...depends on which buffet.

Disneyland raised annual pass costs by quite a lot about a year ago, because a good bit more than half their customers are annual passholders and they wanted to change that.

If they want to change it at WDW too, then up that price will go.

I am so overwhelmed with this trip!!

So now....I may buy the 4 day get one free from UT and then upgrade the rest of ours at the gate if we go in another day.

DANG IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time I am using a TA!!!!!!!!

Thanks again!

I think that this ticket increase actually saved me an additional $57. I bought a 4 day park hopper plus water parks, fun, & more from UT for $350 x3. WDW gate price for that ticket is now $404 (was $385 last week). That's an additional $19 x3. We are upgrading our tickets to the DVC PAP which is $515 each, so instead of paying the difference between $515 and $385, we now have to pay the difference between $515 and $404. Is this correct? I have never done this, but everything that I've read leads me to believe that this will be the case.

P.S. All prices include tax.

$4 is nothing. Take a look at how the price of annual passes goes up every year. In the last few years it has been increasing in larger increments.
2010 - $10 AP/PAP
2011 - $20 AP/PAP
2012 - $55 AP/$50 PAP
2013 - $35 AP/$30 PAP
2014 - $25 AP/PAP Increase so far...
Total increases since 2010 $145 for AP, and $135 for PAP.

I should have guessed this was coming by the fact that the DVC annual pass special price announced a couple weeks ago was $85 higher than they had run the previous special, and I was thinking, isn't that only $10 less than it is now? I just looked up the PAP prices and yes, it's much higher today than it was for new PAPs, although the renewal rate is $10 higher than the special. Guess we will be buying the ticket vouchers during the promotion to offset the increase...before they raise it again!

Maybe both DL and WDW should get rid of AP's. They could make more money that way with the FL residents having to buy day or multi-day tickets

The way people go crazy over Disney increases you'd think no other park raises their prices! A Universal 2 park/2 day ticket has increased 58% from what I paid nine years ago.

And Disney has nearly doubled since 2004.

I didn't read all the posts so I apologize if this has already been said.

People around here are complaining that parks are too crowded leading to long wait times and the eliminating of some FP perks however they are now also complaining that Disney is raising their prices which is the only real way to combat overcrowding of their parks.

What do you really want Disney to do? This is supply and demand and when demand is too high (i.e. overcrowding) then you raise prices to bring supply down and find the equilibrium.

Everybody is comparing the Disney of today vs. their memories of Disney from a few years ago but other people have seen the value and theme park admissions continue to climb. So Disney can either allow the parks to get more and more crowded or raise prices. Since Disney is a business it isn't surprising that they will try and raise prices to get the parks back to that sweet equilibrium.

----Edit----

Looking at this chart you can see Disney has had to battle overcrowding at the park. They have risen their prices significantly over the last five years (after inflation) yet attendance continues to go up. This means that it is under-priced.

.

And when the demand gets low you think they would lower their prices?? Nope

True but I would say it is a different animal, as there are I would presume many more DLR APers than FL, since DL is loaded with SoCal and Cal locals who take advantage of the ticket deals for locals and the monthly payment plans.

Also, as someone who held both APs in the last couple of years, I would say the overall value, attractions, discounts, etc., are better for the price at DL than WDW... Just my opinion, of course.

Who on earth only goes to WDW for one day anyway?

I know plenty of conventioners that go only one day.
They either skip a day of the convention, or add a day at the end - just as a "fun" day.

I know plenty of conventioners that do this with Universal, Sea World too.

And when the demand gets low you think they would lower their prices?? Nope

All the recent price increases (see the attached chart in my last post) hasn't seemed to cause a problem so it is a pretty good bet that this $4 price increase won't cause that to happen either.

But truthfully if they overshoot it then the parks will be far emptier and Disney will need to evaluate whether the better move is to decrease prices or allow inflation to catch up with years of no price increases.

It has also been reported on various sties that UNI is raising their 1 day, 2 park tickets(which were raised once this year) by 16% when the new Harry Potter opens.

Guests at the new resort, the 50's style (which looks kinda neat!) Will not have free express/fast passes.

AKK

And if Universal does a price increase I will gladly pay it with no complaint because with that price increase they are giving me a new product. The same can not be said for Disney doing the same.

With a price increase at Universal comes an increased product to off set it. An entire new land with 2 E-ticket attractions, an entirely new themed environment which includes new street shows, interactive experiences, and themed shopping and dining. Not too mention the other park additions such as Springfield, Transformers and Despicable Me. And in the other park they will be starting work on yet another new E-ticket attraction with Kong.

Over on the Disney side of things we have another price increase with nothing new except for NFL(which was opened already, with a price increase already put into place for it) and a new well themed kiddie coaster at the MK and nothing new at the other parks which also were price increased. Then of course you have MyMagic/FastPass + which is not exactly an attraction by any stretch of the imagination and to some is actually a negative and not a positive.

That is the difference right now. A price increase is expected and easy to swallow if with it comes with a product that justifies it. If Universal does raise their admission prices, then at least they are delivering a return for it.

As for the new Cabana Bay resort, yes it does not come with unlimited Express Pass but it is going to be much cheaper to stay in, and you still get early admission. You have to make the choice on whether Express Pass is worth the added expense to stay deluxe or not, which in my opinion was smart of Universal. This way they can get the families who were staying in their partner hotels to at least stay in a Universal hotel. At the partner hotels you could get early admission but not EP, and many did this. Now Universal gets those families onsite for the same cost.

Ticket price increases won't stop us from coming to Disney, but it may be longer before we go back. Our paychecks aren't going up fast enough to keep up.

Who on earth only goes to WDW for one day anyway?

We are, because we decided on a cruise and our first visit to Universal instead of a week at Disney, and littlest DD and I wanted a day at MK. We paid for most of the cost with Disney Visa rewards, so it's not too crazy.

I have friends who spent one day at WDW (at MK) because that was all their budget could afford. It was worth it to them because they went from RD to closing, using FP- all day long. This is more common than you think, especially among people on tight budgets whose main purpose in going to Florida is to see family and/or escape the cold, along with higher budget cruisers who fly in to MCO a couple days early and figure why not.
