First, I must say that I am so thrilled that the SSR bashing is WAY less than it once was. When I first started coming to these boards about 2 years ago (doing research as I was getting ready to buy) it seemed that almost every other thread was bashing SSR). And SSR was what Disney was selling at the time...and it had the extra 12 years. But after having read everything here, I really thought I should purchase one of the other resorts via resale.

However, I had the opportunity to rent some SSR points, so that is what we did...fell in love with the place and the rest is history. Been owners ever since and never once have we regretted it.

Well, we just decided to do a last-minute trip in May (in 5 weeks! yikes! Though I am of course thrilled to be going home in just a few weeks, so much planning...so little time....lol!) So, I called MS to see what was available for 1-BRs. To my surprise, I was able to book BWV. DH and I have stayed there before, but the kids have not. I figured that they would love the pool and we have talked about wanting to try out every DVC resort, so I booked it.

Later as DH and I were talking I mentioned that we would be staying at BWV and he just stared at me open mouthed and then started to stammer... "But...but....but....what about Saratoga Springs? I want to stay at my Saratoga. Why can't we stay there? Were they full? Why didn't you book there? Can you call them back? Are Member Services closed?" As he went at got the phone to hand to me. You just had to see the lost puppy dog look on his face! It was too much!

My point is...yes, some people really do prefer SSR over "little 3" as they are now being called.

In the end, I explained my reasoning to him and he sighed and said the he probably should allow the kids to expand their DVC horizons (that killed me!), so we will keep our BWV reservations, but I just wanted to share this story and our love for SSR!

How funny! We had decided we would try to stay at BCV's this summer but when it came time to book I just couldn't do it. The more I thought about SAB with the little ones the more it bothered me. I think High Rock Springs is perfect for the kids, love the zero entry for the smaller ones and the bigger ones love the slide. Besides I just really wanted to be back at SSR. We had such a great time there in December and I was already missing it. The worst part about it was I was the one that suggested BCV in the first place. I talked them in to BCV and then I had to talk them out of it!

Last year I booked a May trip on about 3 months notice. At the time only OKW and SSR were available. I took SSR but put myself on the waitlist for BWV and BCV. A few weeks later DVC called to report that BWV was available. I turned it down. When push came to shove, I couldn't pry myself away from Home.

Last week I booked another May trip, this time on less than 60 days notice. I happily took SSR and didn't even consider the waitlist. :woohoo:

You know what this is? The insidious Saratoga disease. It's something in the water. Or maybe it's that hourly clock chime. It sends out post-hypnotic suggestions while your dozing.

This said from the girl who purchased trying to book VWL for Christmas because she read it was "the" place to be, but ended up at SSR across from the pool and has since booked 3 trips this year at the same resort. I keep telling myself to try them all, but having slept a night at SSR my poor little heart keeps stuttering at the thought.

Great story! We are experiencing exactly the opposite of your story! We are BWV (& VWL) owners who added two extra days at the beginning of our upcoming trip.

We specifically asked to stay at SSR so that we could try it out! We stopped by in October and all the landscaping was maturing so beautifully from our first visit the previous spring. Looking forward to our stay there! :)

I think that's the best way to do it. A short stay added onto another one. That way if you don't love something you aren't left feeling as if you cheated yourself. It balances itself out.

And since the resorts are complimentary, it makes for a well-rounded vacation.

My goal is to ease into a 9 day SSR trip next year with a 3 day stint at BWV or AKV.

Isn't DVC great?! So many delightful options!! :cloud9:

Absolutely! This is definitely how we feel! And the addition of AKV will add yet another completely different option. We plan to be thrilled with them all...but DH's heart is apparently at SSR! :rotfl:

I can agree with the SSR feeling. I was reluctant to buy in , and refused to stay there my first trip. However, the closer we got to our first DVC stay, the more I realized I actually wanted to try the place. I've been in love ever since . . .

We're going in Fall for 2 5-night stays, once in VWL and once in BCV. The only reason I don't miss SSR is that I've always wanted to stay in both places and we're gong for Epcot and MK specific events, but I will be happy at SSR any time.

It's always so encouraging to read great reports like yours about SSR. We're going for our 1st time this summer and I appreciate hearing all of the wonderful things about the resort, especially with some unmerciful bashing going on about SSR by a few people!!

Hey all. I'm a newbie so can I ask:

What's SAB? The "little 3" or the "little ones"?

I'm guess the little 3 are the smaller WDW DVCs (BCV, BWV and VWL). But I really can't figure out SAB?

Storm Along Bay, the main pool at the Yacht/Beach Club/BCV! It's a mini-water park!

SAB = Stormalong Bay, the main pool shared by BC & BCV. It get confusing around here with all these abbreviations, doesn't it?! :)

We have experienced the same thing. We originally bought 350 points at SSR. Since we stayed there we have added another 150. We are at DLR today, and are meeting with our guide to add 215 more giving us a total of 715 Saratoga Springs points (We are a family of 5 and need larger accomidations) We had considered adding on at a sold out resort, but once we stayed there, we fell in love. The other resorts are really nice, but we like SSR the best by far.
I think SOME of the critical remarks in the past about SSR has been the old "If you can't have it, find a reason why you would not want it" way of thinking. When SSR first opened, I think there was some shock and dissapointment among existing members that the use date was extended to 2054. (Of course there are people out there that dislike SSR for more ligetimate reasons, the problem is it is hard to tell one group from the other).

My hubby is similar. I have some quirk where I have to try every Disney owned resort on property then it is back to SSR for the remainder of our stayes. Hubby rolls his eyes because he would rather stay at SSR but reluctantly goes along with my plan :teeth: (besides he has to learn that girls win).

So after I knock out all the resorts it is back to SSR. We always have to visit our "home" when we go down and it is getting really hard to not be there all the time.
