I just found out that this will be the 3rd Scrapbook Store that I really like to go to that is closing in the past 6 months or less. What is up with it?? Is the Scrapbooking buisness going by the way side. Maybe to be replaced by Digi Scrapping?? I am so sad about this...............:(

It's the same in the UK, magazines and stores are closing pretty much daily at the moment :(

Have either of you been to the one just the Turnpike in Boca? I think it's just north of glades? I noticed it last time I drove to Orlando and wasn't sure if it was worth it to swing by

I will be up that way on the 21st and was planning on checking it out.

The same is happening here in Ontario.....one of the stores instead of closing changed their focus and now are catering to weddings....making your own invitations, wedding scrapbooks etc., therefore carrying more wedding related scrapbook items.

I think the internet has also eliminated the need for so many scrapbook stores. I know that I, myself, do purchase most of my scrapbook supplies from a local scrapbook store but I do buy some stuff from the internet when I cannot find the item in my local store.

I do take my Creating Keepsakes magazine with me when we go away and I do try to visit a local scrapbook store on each trip. Last time we were in WDW a friend and I went to the Mouse Memories warehouse and had a blast. I can't wait to go back to WDW in a few weeks so I can visit the warehouse again and stock up on Disney stuff.

That store use to be on 441 in Boca. It was alot smaller than it is now. I found the change to be really great.

Thanks :D I'm always on the lookout for a good LSS - Mike's here in Coral Springs stinks for scrapbooking. I usually head to the Sawgrass Store or the one on University in Davie (Tower Shops)

Our stores in Indiana seem to be dropping like flies. We still have a few left but I worry about their future.

My guess is that it is because Hobby Lobby and Michael's have started carrying so much more scrapbook stuff. Since they run sales all the time I think the LSS's just couldnt compete.

It makes me so sad because the LSS's would carry so much more theme specific items. I miss them :guilty:

Two internet companies I use have just closed - you'd have thought there'd be plenty of business here as there are so few physical stores, but maybe I just can't spend enough on my own to keep them all in business :guilty:

Where in Indiana are you? You're right- seems like every time I find a good store, they close. If you're in the northern part of IN, there's a good one in Ft Wayne called Luv2Scrapbook. Their prices are about the same as any other sb store and they had the most variety of Bazzill colors that I've ever seen in one place.

Where in Canada do you get on line supplies? I hate to order from States because of shipping and duty fees. I really would like to see local shops for Disney stuff! princess:

I was gonna say the same thing!
I'm not sure if it's partly ebay where prices are often cheaper, or if too many stores/internet shops opened and there just isn't that much trade for them all?
Very sad situation:sad1:

That is one of the main reasons that the LSS I used to work for (also in IN by the way) closed. The sales can be great at Michaels and others, but they sure don't carry all the newest and neatest or much variety.

We have Michaels, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby. Michaels doesn't have much in the way of scrapbooking and it is expensive and they never have what I want on sale. I usually go to AC Moore most of the time because they have better products and better sales. Our Hobby Lobby has improved recently, but they haven't had an good sales lately and they also has restrictions on items, which are usually the items that I want. We have one Scrapbooking store, but she is a little expensive and she doesn't have much Disney stuff, she usually has the same stuff mousememories has and I can still get it cheaper ordering online.

I think I anm going to try to go the the Mouse Memories Warehouse in August when I go to WDW.

Suzanne princess:

I don't like our Hobby Lobby that much. They don't carry that much in the lines of great stuff. We do have one LSS that doesn't seem to be going anywhere, thankfully. Just our Michaels and such carry pretty plain jane stuff you could find at Wal-Mart or Meijer. Not that great.

I would guess they are closing because it is a specialized store. I think the online stores are taking some business but not all. I would think online stores would cater to more smaller communities that don't have a store. We have 2 decent ones here but I would think that rent for a store space would be the main reason that scrapbook stores can't make it. I mean that's takes a lot of papers and stickers to pay rent, payroll and inventory. (Sorry it's that accountant in me!) The stores likes Michaels and JoAnn's have lots of other things that pay the rent. I am not surprised that the online stores are sort of taking over. Probably less over head to pay for.

Well I just got a e-mail there may be a pending sale on my LSS. Please send lots of PD that it doesn't fall through.
