Another one bites the dust...Disney Store in Glen Allen, VA--

Is the disney store in Glen Allen still open? When is it's last day? And is it worth a small drive from midlothian or should I just wait unitl I get to WDW?

Went to the closeout at the Greece Ridge Center in Rochester, NY yesterday. I tried hard to find something to buy, but couldn't justify buying anything  . Anything practical (mugs, etc) were already gone and I have no need for a large amount of plushes or princess dolls.

We were at the Hagerstown Mall, MD, yesterday and their DS is closing . I actually knew it was closing, but confirmed it by the signs and the long line of people waiting to check out. Out our way (Wash/MD/VA/WV area) we use to have up to 20 DS. After the DS in Hagerstown, Lakesforest Mall, and St. Charles, Waldorf close the only stores left will be Tysons Corner, Dulles Town Center, Colombia Mall, Potomac Mills (which my hubby use to work at before the take over in 2005). So the closest store to me is more than an hours drive (Dulles or Colombia). Not worth it to me. I'll stick to online shopping where I can generally get discounts and free shipping most of the time.

The store @ Chesapeake Square Mall in Portsmouth, VA is closing, too. Only one left in this area is in Virginia Beach @ Lynnhaven Mall. What a shame, as this was our least favorite store........

I can't believe the store @ Chesapeake Square is already shut down and still full of store!
This was my favorite store - I was in there at least weekly and probably spent thousands in there in the last few years :(

I wonder if all the stuff is going to be funneled over to Lynnhaven Mall now that it is all we have in this area - no Chesapeake Square, no Williamsburg, No Glen Allen - Potomac Mills up by DC is remaining open I believe - but it is a 4 hour drive from southern VA

Nope, it's only 90 min to Roanoke, but 2 1/2 hours to get to Tyson's or Potomac Mills :scared1: for me.

Hey AutumnsMom - let me know when you want to go to Roanoke - I'm in the Shen Valley too! I'm surprised that Roanoke is staying open - although happy - we get down there a couple of times a year - but Glen Allen was my Fav!

I only found out about this when we went to Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, MD this weekend and found everything on sale - it looked like a bomb had gone off in there. I really felt sorry for the employees trying to keep things organized there.

Where are you?? I'm at exit #222 :moped:

This is sad. It's only like a 10 minute drive from my house. They close for good in about 2 more weeks. We went last week and bought a few of the canvas paintings, some stuffed animals, some coffee mugs, a couple of those figurine sets (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty), and a couple snowglobes that was left over. The total came to about $150 so DH was like "That's IT?!" and told DD to go grab a few more things.

Bittersweet....lol.

Why are all the stores closing down like that now? I haven't really paid attention to it before, now I'm really curious.

We've lost ours too (Tampa Bay Florida) and my sister said hers closed too (Gainesville Florida). I was able to get a good deal on some Hannah Montana stuff for my niece and a couple decorative Mickey items for the house. I don't get to the mall very often so I don't know if they're completely cleaned out or if they're still selling stuff. It was 40-60% off when I was there almost 2 weeks ago. The manager said she didn't know the exact closing date but anything left unsold will go to the outlet in Orlando.

my beautiful mall in Burlington, MA lost its Disney Store a few months ago. I almost cried, because even though I didn't buy all the time, I SURE liked to look... it was right across from a Rainforest Cafe, and gave me that tiny "sorta there" feeling. You know, I could just pretend for ten minutes that I was in Downtown Disney again. Sigh...

So yeah, would someone explain the whole Disney store closing/bankruptcy/Disney-acquirement to me? I don't know anything about it, and I am dying of curiosity. Thanks!

Here's another thread that explains it more.

Does anyone (the OP?) know if the Glen Allen store is still open? We are going to Williamsburg on Saturday to go to Busch Gardens and wondering if it is worth a stop at the mall on the way?

I'll check today since I have to go to VA Center Commons today anyway.

I went by yesterday. I was told they are scheduled to close June 22nd. To be honest, there is a bunch of junk in there. It almost seems as if there were some warehouse full of outdated stuff and they decided to send it to the store. It's still only at 40-50% off as well. Cash and credit cards only.
