another newbie question about 06 points/use year/developers pts.

Okay we just joined on Tuesday. I asked my guide this when he explained it to us, but when I read stuff here I get confused and think maybe I misunderstood him. Okay...our use year is Oct. 1st. We bought 300 pts. We got those right away, plus we had a choice of taking the 10 buck per pt. discount or 300 developer pts. Which is what we took. So that gives us 600 that we need to spend by this Oct. or is it Oct.1st 08? I am pretty sure Dave said that 600 have to be used by then....then our new pts. Oct. of this year we could bank. Am I right? Because if I am not right....THEN WE HAVE A LOT OF POINTS TO SPEND BETWEEN NOW AND THIS OCT. YIKES. .

With an October UY, you're currently in your 2006 year. The developer points should be 2006 points, which cannot be banked, and thus must be used by Sep 30, 2007.

Your regular 2006 points can be banked into your 2007 use year, which runs Oct 1, 2007 thru Sep 30, 2008. Those points, if banked, would have to be used during that timeframe.

Of course, you will also be receiving regular 2007 use year points on Oct 1, 2007.

In any case, no matter how you look at it, unless you continually bank every year all your points, then at least during one of the years you will have up to 600 points to use that year.

You may want to confirm with your guide. If you bought at Animal Kingdom then my understanding is that the developer points are only good for 7 months and can not be banked and I believe can not be transfered. You can switch them out with an existing reservation as long as the reservation is with in the 7 month time table. The developer points expire in 7 months, Everyone is getting 2006 points with purchase which I believe can be banked. You should confirm with your guide.

You are correct for AKV. I am not sure if they are offering a special with SSR which would have different incentives and rules.

In regards to your current 300 points (the Oct06 points, not the developer points), you have until March 31 to bank them. You would then have to use those points by Sept 30, 2008.

We did buy into SSR. I will call today to make sure i am straight on this. This is all new to me.

My guide called me back....and he told me that I can bank 600 by end of March and then I will have til Oct. of 08 to use them. We got developers points of 300 and the 300 we bought...our use year is Oct. So he said we got a very good deal. NOW TO START PLANNING ON HOW WE WILL SPEND THOSE BABIES. LOL
