Another ME vs. Towncar question

I am also one of the many debating about ME and a towncar. The reason I am even cosidering the extra cost of a towncar is because I want the grocery stop. My family and I are going to be staying at BCV. I only really need milk, creamcheese, peanutbutter, jelly, bread, and maybe some coldcuts. If I use ME is there a way I can get these grocery's on Disney property or deliverd?

Try Gardengrocer.com. We used them last trip and all worked like a charm. You don't even need to be present in your room when they deliver. The biggest plus- you don't waste valuable vacation time going to a grocery store!

There is Garden Grocer and there is also Gooding's. If all you are looking for is the availability of groceries, it would be a darn shame to spend $120 on rides when you can spend $12 or $20 on a grocery delivery fee.

The way Gooding's works ... they deliver directly to Bell Services, and Bell Services then calls you. If you're not in, Bell Services stores your groceries, even keeping the cold stuff cold (Gooding's separately bags and labels the cold stuff); they leave you a message and you call them back when you're good and ready.

Garden Grocer CAN work the same way as Gooding's, if you request it. Garden Grocer's normal way of doing things is to schedule a time for a delivery directly to you in your room, but if you prefer you can ask them to do it the way Gooding's does it, and they'll be happy to do so.

Both websites seem to have a limited variety of stuff, but both of them can get you whatever you want ... just ask! Garden Grocer will shop for whatever you want at whatever market they go to. Gooding's is a supermarket that has a delivery option, so they will deliver whatever they stock on their shelves even if it's not listed on their website.

Gooding's will NOT deliver alcohol, but Garden Grocer will.

Gooding's is reportedly the most expensive market in the area, but it'll still be MUCH MUCH cheaper to pay some inflated prices at Gooding's compared with paying $120 or so for the car service. In addition, you will get to your resort quicker via DME than you would with the car service + grocery stop.

For that matter, given the few items you need, you can probably save even more money by just purchasing the items at BCV. Yes, the per-item cost may be higher - but you've already saved $60 plus tip on the town car; and you've not had to spend a minimum dollar amount plus pay a delivery charge (and maybe a tip) for grocery delivery.

For that matter, you could pack the peanut butter and the jelly (and if you've got a sturdy plastic box, even the bread) in your checked luggage; and freeze some grapes and place them in a small insulated bag with the coldcuts you bought at home and bring that as/in one piece of carry-on luggage (and in fact, check with your deli person - maybe you can freeze the coldcuts themselves). Then you'll just have to buy the milk and the cream cheese from the BCV store.

On my last stay at WDW, I had a bunch of groceries delivered. I used gardengrocer. And it was great. But, if I had had a shorter list of stuff to buy, I could have just done to the BW shop, Screen Door, and bought them there. As katieeldr said, yes, they are more expensive, but if you're just buying a few things it might be the way to go. It would be silly to spend the $12 delivery charge to get $20 worth of food. And when I was in the store, I saw that quite a bit of the stuff I had had delivered was available.
Just something to think about. There is no way I would take a towncar just for that reason.

This thread just convinced me to give ME a try...go figure!:confused3

Can't wait to see how you like it. It isn't perfect but it's a terrific option. Be sure to let us all know how it goes!!

Thank you everyone for your advice! Not sure about where I will buy my groceries from yet but I am going to definitely try ME. Especially after I read on some of the other threads that ME only takes about 15 minutes longer than a towncar service. Oh, one more thing: Taxi or towncar from BCV to Universal with luggage?

Actually, all my DME trips have been quicker than my towncar trips mainly because you don't have to wait for your luggage to arrive on the carosel and then for the driver to go and get the car.

Most of the time I use DME with a grocery delivery like many pp's but I use wegoshop. Occasionally we stay at the Dolphin and since we can't use DME I use a towncar. All of my trips via DME were quicker than my towncar trips even without a grocery stop.
