Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

That sounds like paradise. Actually, a lot of Canada is very appealing. :)
Yes, elections are a pretty concise affair; start-to-finish. The only thing you can't count on is when they will occur. We don't have fixed-terms here like you folks every four years. At least you know when to brace for impact.

We'll be sure to let you know how things turn out. :wave2: In the meantime, all my fine Canadian DIS compatriots - get out and vote! Advance-polling actually starts today.

We voted Friday, because we'll be in Quebec before and on election day. :)

Enjoy! If you happen to run into Premier Legualt, thank him for me. ;)

Voting will be Monday after work for me - I LOVE the vibe at the polls on Election Day. :cheer2:
Then it's straight home with pizza and wine to enjoy the show. popcorn::

As crazy as things are here, the people working at the polls are the Best! So friendly and helpful, I hope it's that way for you too.
:goodvibes It's never crazy at our polls. Most of them in our city are in schools so sometimes there are groups of students there observing and learning about democracy in action and their civic duty. :lovestruc That makes me very proud.

The polls themselves are well-organized and efficient and everything runs smoothly but with a little buzz of excitement. We don't have electronic voting or voting machines - it's all good old fashioned marking an X on a paper ballot with a lead pencil. You drop the ballot into the box yourself and usually the whole process, start to finish takes about 3 minutes. :rolleyes1 And then we wait...

Votes start being counted at 8:00 pm local times, when the polls close. Due to the sea-to-sea nature of Canada, it is 4 hours later in the East than the West. (4-and-a-half in Newfoundland - that's for NFLDERS :wave2:). Results aren't broadcast until the last polls on the West coast are closed but depending on how it goes, the whole shebang can be decided before those votes are even counted. Woot!! Sounds like fun, right!! :banana:I can't wait!

Hi, everyone, hope you are all doing well as we slide ever so gracefully into fall. At least, it's been graceful here, the weather has been nice and warm- in fact, my grape hyacinth bulbs are starting to come up!! Public schools are back in session and covid is rampant among the 6-16yr olds, with whole grade levels being quarantined at one time, and several schools have done full quarantines. UMaine is doing an "all students must be vaccinated" thing, but they have until October 15 to complete the series- so what good is it really? Those who aren't fully vaxxed have to be tested weekly. So far, I've had 2 students test positive, and they were in my lab between the test date and result, so I've been exposed twice. I was tested both times and was negative (go, vaccine!), but this is getting old. Sigh. Not sure I have a good plan/answer, but I don't think this current plan is good.

I'm looking for opinions and figured you're a good group to ask! Would you rather go to an "outdoor" event with a small dance floor, or no dance floor at all?
DETAILS: DD is getting married (second wedding) in 12 days! We are still trying to decide about getting a dance floor. It's a small, outdoor wedding in a 20X40 tent. Thirty-six guests, not too many older adults so my guess is there'll be dancing!! With our floor plan, I can't see getting a dance floor that's much bigger than 10X10. I just laid out a 10X10 square on the floor and it's small, would only be space for maybe 4 couples dancing at a time. We could maybe squeak in a 10X12 but I don't know if the floor panels come in that configuration. I'd rather have a dance floor, but the ground is level and the grass is nice, so dancing on the grass is also an option (and there'd be more space).

SO... whaddaya think? Small floor, bigger floor, no floor. I swear, it'd be so much easier to just "throw money" to someone and have it all magically appear, without my input, but there's not much money to "throw," so a DIY wedding is what's happening!!

Well I'm not a dancer, but one thought occurs to me. What type of footwear will be most prevalent? If people are wearing dressy shoes they might hesitate to dance on the ground. But maybe this is a very casual event w/no expensive shoes? Or maybe people remove their shoes to dance? OK now I'm asking more questions than providing helpful feedback:blush:

As for the practical matter of paying for a dance floor, if this is a big ticket item I'd skip it altogether.

We did look for it briefly that night, didn't see it. After a few days ventured out the front door. I am still ginger about going out the front door but haven't had any sightings ( fingers crossed it stays that way). We've had the sprinklers running a lot as my husband planted some seed in various parts of the lawn so maybe just maybe that has made the snake not want to be here..one can hope :scared:

When we went in August to vote for the primary (just had city council and a school board position for our area on the ballot) as I was signing my name during check in the gentleman started up a conversation about me being left handed and the world just not made for left handed people and how left handed people sit on horses. It was sweet, the guy that took my blank ballot to the machine was behind this guy and you could tell he knew he was a talker. I don't mind the small chit chat though :)

Generally the weddings I've been to people like to dance but knowing who are attendees also makes a difference. Personal opinion I agree with PollyannaMom if there's a bit of room in the budget I would do it but I also agree with Ron if it's just way too expensive with that small of a wedding it's not the be it all if a specific dance floor isn't there.

We just went to a wedding this past Saturday. The dance floor was a rectangle but some of the tables (like ours) jutted out into the dance floor. There was still plenty of room to dance but you had to make sure you didn't bump into the tables. I honestly only get up to dance these days for slow dances including ones if they do for how many years you've been together. We'll get out there for the cha-cha-slide or the cupid shuffle too.

It sounds like with the size you'd be getting probably would be just slow dancing for the most part. Ron brings up a good point about shoes since it's an outdoor wedding.

Just a test to see if pictures will post.

This one is of the Reservation/Check in area at the Hilton in Gatineau,
Quebec. Our recent Bus Tour was Covid19 different, but very relaxing. :)
