Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

Good morning Jo!

Happy Sunday!! :)

Here's a little something to start your day. . .

Thank you Willy :flower3:

Hope the rest of Saturday is better than the beginning :scared1: Glad you and your mum are ok

Hope @Octoberbeauty pops in to report she's ok at some point as well :flower:

My son felt it in Altus. Dang I was just there last week......would have been interesting to feel a quake as Michigan gets about 2 a decade!!!

The thing was how long it lasted.

I was sound asleep and figured it lasted about 45 seconds, which is long for an earthquake, but the news said it lasted right at 2 minutes!

Did anyone else feel the OK earthquake this morning? I was reading in my living room when I felt my house sway. It's a cruel joke to make us have to worry about tornadoes and earthquakes. When people from out of state would ask if we're scared of tornadoes I would tell than that at least we don't have to worry about tsunamis and earthquakes but now I can't say that.
:scared1: That's the two scariest natural events both in one place. Hopefully, it was an anomaly & you won't have to worry about more earthquakes. (FTR, I had a much funnier second sentence typed up. I thought those of you who have to worry about tornadoes may not find it as funny as I did, so I edited it. :p:laughing:) Anything for my DIS friends. :flower3:

It makes me sad for one of my favorite states that they now have to contend with earthquakes. It just doesn't seem right to have earthquakes in OK. I wish fracking was banned everywhere. Glad all of you guys living in OK are okay!
I wish fracking was banned everywhere as well. It's a big, big problem in parts of Australia, but what do we know being lowly citizens and not high on the priority list for the overlords that run the place :(

We felt it here West of St Louis. Woke me up. My wife was up & said the dog was acting weird & nervous for several minutes before she felt the quake. Several of her friends are saying the same about their pets.

Just saw a video of two dogs in Tulsa freaking out before the earthquake too.

Not sure if my dogs did anything before it hit, but they were back asleep by the time I got up and checked in my mom.

Good morning Jo!!

Happy Monday! I know the beginning of the week sucks, so here's a little something to help you out. . .

My pleasure as always dear. . .

No earthquakes today, so there's that. . . :teeth:
Serious question: Do you guys have storm shelters or something or is that just in the movies?

Non-serious: I'm visualising a Wizard of Oz scenario whenever you talk of tornados....

I don't know about Coweta, but I've seen plenty of shelters in OK. Some people even have them here, but not as many. In general, the water table is too high here for below ground shelters or basements. One of my DH's clients was from OK, though, and when they moved here they insisted on building a storm shelter in their garage.

My neighbor has one, but it's the only one near here that I know of.

I've lived here off and on for 28 years now, and my mom the whole 28, and while a few have come close, there's never been one hit here directly.

We have a interior bathroom where we'd go if one was heading at us. . . only did it one time.

My parents had taken my niece to a local festival in another town and me, my late brother, my SIL, and 5 dogs were here. A huge storm blew in; sideways rain; TV said people in Coweta take cover; sirens going off; SIL freaking out. . so the 3 of us get the dogs and pile in the small bathroom.

After about 2 minutes, my brother said he'd rather die in a tornado than spend another second in the bathroom, so that was that.

Mainly we just stay away from the windows and hope for the best. :)

I just watched a National Geogtaphic special about a massive tornado that hit El Reno in 2013. Was that close to you?

No, the other side of the state.

The one that hit Joplin, Mo. was closer, and that's about 70 miles from us.
