Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

I'm so sorry for your loss, Jane. I have been thinking of you ever since I heard how much snow you guys have received. I'm so sorry for the toll this storm has taken on your family. Sending you virtual hugs.

Your cousin contributed so much to the community, it's a terrible loss all the way around.

I'm feeling melancholy and tired tonight so thought I'd drop by and see what's up. It's been a rough start to the semester, and right now 6 of my 32 students are out with diagnosed flu. DD/SIL have been fostering a pet, thinking of adoption, but it looks like it's not going to work for any of them (DD/SIL, their current pets, the foster pet) and it's breaking her heart. Being the parent of an adult is challenging, and hard; there's really nothing I can do anymore to make it better, you know? I'm supposed to travel to MA this weekend to see a HS play the my cousin is directing, but it's a 4 hour drive each way, and I should be back on Sunday in time for a Super Bowl party we've been invited to attend. I'm feeling tired and a little run down, and am worrying about a possible reoccurrence of the pre-orbital cellulitis I had back in November. All in all, I'm just run down and at loose ends, I guess... feeling weary. Of course it's not all bad; DH and I are considering a trip to Hawaii this summer. I have a pile of Southwest points to use, and as we have a Companion Pass DH can fly with me for free until the end of 2020, so it seems like a good opportunity. Also, we are having an abnormally warm winter, with only about 3" of snow on the ground, and it's not an even snow cover at all; our gravel walkways are driveway are pretty bare, just some ice around the edges, and I can see grass in the animal prints in the snow. I know it could be worse, and the pictures from Canada are just plain WRONG. @NFLDERS Jane, I am seeing roads that look like they are tunnels through the snow, the banks are so high. Is it like that where you live? I cannot imagine!

Anyhow... thanks for listening, I'm feeling better already! Hope everyone is well, and avoiding the flu!

Leebee did you go shopping for your tv yet? Sorry to hear about the foster pet sitch, DD just adopted a 10 month old kitten and the whole family is completely in love with her. They'd have been crushed had it not worked out.

A four hour drive for a HS play? You're a better cousin than I am, I'd be playing the "Not feeling well card" especially because you're not feeling great.

Try to forget about all that stuff and concentrate on burnin' up those SW points! ::yes::

What ever happened to the original poster, King Schultz? Anyone know? I always liked his style.

King Schultz aka Willy J disappeared from the boards about 2 years ago. He was terribly upset over the passing of his mother, then he stopped posting. We all hope he is well and has just moved on from posting here.

No TV yet. I got sidetracked at work yesterday and didn't get home until about 7:30. It's on the plan for tonight, though. If I go to the play, I'll drive 3 hours on Friday night to stay with my sister. She and I'll go to the play on Saturday (an hour each way) and then I'll drive home on Sunday. It's not a terrible drive, Rt. 95 the whole way and in the more northern part of the state I can make decent time. It's just doing it. However, I'll get to spend time with my sister. We live pretty far from family (it's a 6 hour drive to see DD, for example) so we're used to long drives. However, I did warn my sister that I might not make it after all- but she'll go to the play on her own if I don't. I'm in a happier mind-frame today and made progress on the pile of "beginning of semester" crap that was part of yesterday's intimidation/melancholy.

To update the pet situation, after meeting with the trainer at the rescue agency, it was decided that DD's home isn't the best match for this dog. They have another foster family ready and waiting, a family that has the available time to work with her and help her overcome her behaviors and issues. DD/SIL understand, and are glad that there's another family waiting and they aren't abandoning her, but it's still heart-wrenching.

Thanks to everyone for.. you know, just being here.
(and yes, I hope WillyJ/King Schultz is happy and healthy... miss him)

It's good to read your update, and that plans are working their way out. So sorry the adoption didn't though. I'm not a resident of NL just a mainlander with half of my heart on the rock. My parents were both Nflders. My mom was one of 11 children, my dad one of 5. For the exception of 2 of my dad's brothers moving up to Ontario after we settled here, and his only sister marrying a Marine from Boston, Massachusetts and moving there ( my 2 brothers are also here in Ontario) all family are back home.

We visited NL pretty much every summer when I was growing up. Then, I continued to go back with my Dh, our 2 sons and at times when my parents went down. :)

My relatives had a very difficult 6 days following the unprecidented storm. They are coping with the scenario you described, and unfortunately winter is only at the half way mark. An Alberta clipper may be heading their way after it passes through here, :(
