Another incident in WDW

:earseek: Thank goodness he was there! Where were the life guards? :confused3 I guess he must have been at a quiet pool?
I've got to refresh my memory on CPR! :guilty:

Its amazing to me that these places don't have lifeguards. Hotels, cruise ships etc. You would think for liability reasons they would... Thank God that guy was there and that he knew CPR..sounds like the kid was in bad shape when he pulled him out. Wonder where the parents were?

I certainly hope this thread doesn't bring out all of the DISer worry worts to now proclaim that they would never let their kids on ToT, M:S, or any of the resort pools!!! Way to dangerous!! And Drew Rosenhaus saved him...hmmm, I'm sure there's a shark joke in there somewhere!!!

OK don't flame me here, but where were his PARENTS???? No mention of them...

I'm wondering the same thing.

not to mention where were the lifegaurds, but where were the PARENTS. They are ultimately responsible. Thank goodness this angle was there at the time. :sad2:

You know we have a local community private pool and its pretty slow but we do have a lifeguard. I'm amazed at the little kids in there that the parents are asleep, or sunbathing the other direction.
We had a 4yr old jumping off the diving board in the 10 ft pool with no floaties or anything.. Mom was on the other side of the pool talking to friends not paying a bit of attention. The lifeguard is standing on the edge of the pool ready to go in..she almost didn't make it to the end. Parents all over are standing at their chairs watching her... we're yelling swim Susan swim! b/c she was slowing down. And Mom was oblivious. The girl got out ran around and did it again!!! The poor lifeguard was having a heart attack the rest of the day.

My feelings exactly. DS is 15 now and I still keep an eye out for him. No one watches your child like you do. We are members of the local Elks Lodge and we have a very nice pool with certified life guards. Kids 12 and up can go without a parent but I have seen kids as young as 4 there without a parent there to watch them. There is a campground on site and parents will stay at the camper and send the kids over to the pool, walking past a huge lake, to swim by themselves. It just amazes me how stupid parents can be and you can flame me if you want but there is really no excuse for this. That kid’s parents should have been watching him. The only excuse I can think of for the parents is the kid sneaked out of the room without them knowing it and went to swim and unless both parents, or if there was just one, were in the bathroom that should not have happened.

My thoughts exactly, of course, they could have been close by. Things like this can happen in the blink of an eye. I lost my child at EPCOT back in 1994. I was looking at a display in the Wonders of Life pavilion and he was right next to me and when I looked down he was gone. I found him on the other side of the display, but not before I had a major heart attack. My son was 3 at the time and they can be quick. I learned my lesson from that point on not to take my eyes off of him.

Today he is 13 and I still have to keep my eye on him, especially now that he is a teen! JK

I am with you! What is this "blame the lifeguards" Disney has great lifeguards, I have talked to the head guy about thier training and it is excellent. (Wish I could have had his resouces when I was a waterfront director!)

However, depending on them alone is not good. Parents should ALWAYS keep an eye on the kids.

As for the poster who posted about the little girl who was jumping in the deep end over her ablilities I feel very sorry for the lifeguard. At every pool I ever worked at we had the ability to tell the kids NO if we felt they couldn't do it. Sounds like this pool doesn't empower thier guards that way.

I agree I have a pool in my yard, and I dont even allow them outthere alone. And if a friend comes I ask that only one friend at a time, which causes arguments because they both want a friend at the same time BUT i can only watch 3 at a time by myself. My kids are 7 and 10 and I wouldnt leave them alone anywhere in WDW. But I am glad that someone was there to help the child. And if the parents read this, I understand an accident only takes a second, and things happen, just be glad that your baby is still with you!

Just to share....we have one of those soft side simple set pools. It only comes to my DS(5) waist. He was swimming with DS (8) and I was milling around the yard cleaning up and taking the trash out etc..... We have a big wave rocker raft and DS (5) was hanging half on with his face in the water. It looked liked he was stuck so I jumped in and grabed him up out of the water. He was very suprised so in the end he may have just been playing but I wasn't waiting around to see if he was coming up out of the water. It just takes a few seconds..... I've decided to watch a little closer now!

Me, I google just everything it seems. So after reading this thread I thought, hmm wonder what the guy looks like that saved him. Googled him, just because it's so easy. Now I know why those two posters are laughing!

Why does everybody hate NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus?

Well I guess somebody sure likes him now! Still don't know what he looks like though, oh well :) . I'm glad the little boy is okay!

I think you need to be an NFL fan to appreciate why I'm laughing about the shark reference, but that article hits it on the head!

A couple of years ago we were at the quiet pool in OKW and there was poor dad trying to keep and eye on 3 small children and a newborn. He was sitting next to me with the baby and his 2, 4, and 6 yr old played in the shallow end. Well, one went under, I was yelling at my husband to grab the kid, the dad jumped up and asked me to watch the baby (who had been crying for about 10 minutes)while he got his kid. A after everything calmed down here comes mom... she wanted some alone time. She came to the pool with a beer and then nursed the still crying baby. Dad was alittle upset and had many choice words with her. I packed up the kids and went back to the room, their vocab colorful enough. I don't even let my 16, and 14 yr old daughters in our pool unsupervised. It's too dangerous! :fish:

Before we all rush to judgement of the parents let's think of some things that could have distracted them for a few moments. What if there was just one parent who also had a toddler who wandered off and he/she quickly went off after them. Things can happen in the blink of an eye. Yes, I watch my children like a hawk, but anyone can let their guard down for a few minutes and that is when something can happen. I'm sure the parents were thankful their child is ok and very angry at themselves for not watching. No one here is perfect, hopefully for most of us nothing happens to us or our family in times when we are less than perfect.
