I know - not another cat question but here goes...

Our windows do not have sills on them so that Candi can sit and watch the outside world. She is very curious of what is going on outside. In our family room we have the couch next to the windows so she can look out those but there isn't much that happens out there. Last night I had a rubbermaid 18 gal tote in the living room that I moved and put in front of the windows to see if she would get up on it to look outside (I originally put it by the door so she could sit and look out the door - due to it being nice I had the front door open and we have a screen door). Well this morning we were wondering where she was as it got awful quiet (note she is a runner and usually if she isn't running through the house or we don't hear her bell on her collar, generally she's up to no good). DD went into the living room and she was at the one window (we have 3 that bay out) on top of the tote looking out the window. Well it just so happened to be it was the opposite window that she really wanted to look out - she wanted to see the birds that were in the birdhouse by the other window. So I moved the tote so she could look out two windows.

Well when we finally take our outside decorations down, that tote will go downstairs because that's what it is for. My question is:

Does anyone have any of those window sitting things that you can by in the pet stores? I saw one the other night that you don't screw into the wall - which would be ideal - but I'm curious how much weight it will truly hold without scratching up your wall. Also, do they fold down so that when someone wants to sit in the chair near those windows they won't bump against them (they are rockers).

My Dh made our kitty one by attaching a shelf to the sill itself. It doesn't have brackets, it's screwed into the frame. I'm not describing it well, but I can send a pic if you want one. Elvis loves it, but he sometimes gets too stretched out and comfy when he naps. Then he goes bump, bump from the window, to the printer, to the file cabinet, to the floor. OUCH! I told my DH that he needs to add a rail like on a little kid bed. Diana

I have a visual of that description of the cat falling off.....Candi was desperately trying to get on what itty bitty piece of sill is there.....it was kinda funny cause she'd meow at it like it was gonna grow or something!!!

Thanks for that info.

I don't have any good suggestions, but wanted to say your kitty sounds hysterical and quite a hoot! Enjoy!

Thankfully we have ceiling to floor windows so my babies can sit on the floor and look out but what about a cat tree thingy.....I'm going to post some pics of what I'm talking about. We are in the process of looking for one for our babies just to play on but it would definatly serve your purpose plus kitties love to sleep on these things,

I have looked at those and have thought about those but based on how our windows are shaped, I don't think it would work. Plus our heat vent (and only one) for that room is right smack dab in the middle below the windows (there three windows). But very good suggestion Beth...thanks!!! I'm still looking at those though for her to sit on in the rest of the house - but just not sure she'll use it that much for the cost of those things....have you seen the prices on those???? YIKES!!!!

Yes I have seen the price!!!! Thats why I haven't gotten one yet...but when we went to pick out the kitten this weekend the breeder had three of them where all the kittens and mothers are and they loved it!!!!

I'm not going to get one of the $200 dollar ones just maybe one of the $50 or $75 dollar ones!

They had those all over the big cat room at the shelter we got Candi from. I love them - I think she'd have a blast on it and I'm sure your troop would too!!!!! I love the ones that have the tunnels and "hiding" spots.

My brother built a tree for my cat years ago. I think someone is still using it, I passed it on after my cat passed away.

Rajah & her DH built one also. The advantage of building is that you could make one to fit your space.

Of course that is easier said than done ;)

Yep there are instructions for building them online. My gang would love one. They love to hide....the best place of all for my babies is on top of the refridgerator.....there is nothing like walking in the kitchen and having a cat jump on your head...LOL!

I had the hammock-type thing with the sheepskin. You screw it into the top of the window sill and it has brackets that press against the wall below. They absolutely love it. One of my cats weighs 20 lbs and it has never broken. I just recently got rid of it since I redecorated my bedroom and didn’t like the way it looked in there. So I put a piece of furniture under the window so they’d have somewhere to sit. I couldn't bear to take their view away from them!

I personally would go for small cat trees. You can get some platform-type that aren't very big at places like Walmart or KMart for $20-$30. They also wouldn't necessarily block your vent, and would provide a scratching surface that the window perches don't provide. All it needs is a central post and a platform on top. :)
