We spent 4 nights in a ocean view inn room earlier this month. This was our second stay at Vero and I think we loved it more than we did last year.

We took advantage of some of the resort activities.. boche, bingo, sidewalk chalk, boogie boarding, water slide races and the campfire. My two DD's and I got our hair braided and that was LOTS of fun. Just a warning though.. make sure you put sunscreen on your scalp if you get your hair braided. I got a NASTY sunburn there and it really hurt.

We didn't do very much outside of the resort. We did check out Hale Orchard..well the store. They do not allow tours of the actual orchards anymore. We also stopped by the Nature Center and spend some time there.

Most of our time was spent on the beach. If any of you were there from June 7th -11th and saw this dark haired girl digging a HUGE hole in the sand that was my youngest DD. I think the first day she dug a whole about 6 feet in diameter and about 4 feet deep. Why? LOL "Because it is fun!" At least that is what she said.

I saw one turtle in the water but I don't think it was a loggerhead.. or it if was it was a small one. The diving birds were a hoot, but now that I know it means "man eating" ;) fish/sharks could be by we will definately stay out of the water when they are around.

We had a wonderful room.. a HUGE room on the 4th floor. It had a perfect view of the ocean and from the side window we could see the pool (corner room).

All of our meals at Shutters were wonderful, but breakfast. It left something to be desired. We didn't eat at Sonyas and Bleachers was good for counter service. We also didn't make it to the Green Cabin Room this year, even though we had wanted to.

Our days were spent on the beach mostly with a little bit of time at the pool. We would have a late dinner then get a movie and crawl into bed watch it and sleep till the sunrise woke us up. It was incredibly relaxing, just what we needed after a week at the parks.

Can't wait to go back. :)

Jen,

What's there to do outside the resort? Shopping, site seeing, etc?

I am not much of a beach person, but would be interested in staying a few days at Vero.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!! Can't wait to go for the 1st time next May!! How did you like your ocean inn room? Details please. You can PM me!

It didn't seem like there was a whole lot to do outside the resort unless you wanted to drive a while and we didn't. Of course there is the normal stuff.. outlet malls, regular malls, specalty shops. That stuff doesn't really appeal to us, because we can do it at home. We would rather do things there we can't do here.

This was our second ocean view inn room and we love them. Last year we were on the 3rd floor and the balcony was a closed one..meaning I had to stand to see out of it. This year we were on the 4th and it was perfect.

We prefer the ocean view inn room to a studio because of the two beds. This way our DDs can sleep on a bed instead of the sleeper sofa they are sleeping on at WDW. They like it better and NOTHING beats sitting on that balcony with a cup of coffee in the morning... watching the sunrise. Well maybe being on the beach during sunrise. ;)

DVC Jen - I had that very same room in March of this year. You're right - it is huge! It seems like that space under the window on the side could have had a chest or daybed or something doesn't it? I made my reservations yesterday for next March and asked for that room again. Sure would be nice to get it! Glad you had a great time.

DVC Jen - Thanks so much for posting your trip report! We'd love to visit Vero soon. And your report made it all the more tantalizing. Maybe next year.

I have to say one thing to you though or I'll never forgive myself. You said how your DD dug that large hole in the sand. I heard of several instances now where a "big" hole was dug on the beach and how it caved in on the person and killed them. One instance in particular happened to a full grown, very strong, 18 or 19 yr old boy who was playing football and dove into the hole. His hole was about the same size of your daughter's. His many friends tried to dig him out, but didn't get to him in time. The parents said people dig holes for fun all the time and have no idea the danger that can develop. They pleaded w/ the viewers to pass the word around so it doesn't happen to anyone else. So I'm passing it to your family.

I certainly didn't mean to bring down your very uplifting and fun thread, I just felt panicked when I read about your DD and I wanted to let you know of the dangers of holes.

I really did like reading about your wonderful trip. I'm still hoping we get to try out Vero next year. See you on the boards. :wave2:

Jen, can you or someone explain the differences in the inn room/studio? I see that you say the inn room has 2 beds -- but does it still have the little kitchenette? Which is better for a family of 4 first visit?

The inn rooms have a fridge, microwave, toaster and small sink in the kitchen area.

We love the inn rooms.:D

Glad you had such a great trip! I love reading the VB reports because we are heading there in July, and I just know it will be a relaxing place for us to visit!

Jen- Noticed you are from Rowlett - so am I! We were at very the weekend after you (Father's day weekend)

Our first Vero Trip was on cash just to check it out after 12 nights at SSR and we loved it! We actually got a handicapped room in the inn that had a king sized bed and pull out sofa, the room was huge and my kids didn't mind taking showers for 2 days. My dd8 did the Turtle Troop one morning and had a blast, DS5 preferred soccer , basketball, and pool games. One of the castmembers Jessie was so sweet one day we came back to our room and there was a card with an autographed picture of Goofy in it ! She left my son a note thanking him for "hustling" so much in the soccer game (against 9 and 10 year olds) and told him what fun she had with him that day. We were sad though that we missed campfire Friday because of a late start at dinner and Saturday night it stormed so we missed out!

Do the ocean view inn rooms go faster than the studios? Seems it would since in a way they are the same, except with the inn rooms you get a view! Plus, are you closer to the pool?

I'm glad to read such positive posts about VB. I will be planning our trip for next May/June as soon as I can book, and am considering VB for the first time. We always stay 2 weeks at WDW (myself and 3 children), usually split between VWL and BCV. I'm a serious creature of habit, and have been hesitant to try VB. I'm thinking of splitting our trip up with 5 nights at VWL, 5 nights at BCV and 4 nights at VB. We'll be in a 1 bedroom villa at VWL and BCV, and I'm wondering if we could handle changing to a studio or inn room for VB to save on points (when we started a regular room was okay, now we're beginning to get on each other's nerves!!). Also I read that the inn rooms also have a frig and sink like the studios. What are the advantages/disadvantages of inn room versus studio or one bedroom? Thanks for any advise or information!!:D

I appreciate your concern. :) The hole was shallow enough that she could still stand up in it.. it was actually wider than it was deep, and we were RIGHT THERE with her.. my DH was inches from her the entire time. If at any time it would have started to cave in we could have and would have had her out of there within seconds.

That is really sad to hear about people being hurt that way.

I agree about the wonderfulness of Vero - this May was our second trip too and it just seems to get better every time we go. In fact, even though our favourite time to go to WDW is Christmas, we are thinking of changing that to May just so we can put in that week at Vero. I think it may be a best kept secret of DVC. The CMs are so nice, the rooms are beautiful and the sea and the ocean views are breathtaking. We don't have a lot of inexpensive clothing shopping at home so we do go out quite a bit in our first day or two to load up on our summer wardrobes – plus the town of Vero and the wildlife tours are quite marvelous. Glad you had a great time.

. . . and we're going back in late August. It's very relaxing and from what I understand, the Inn rooms have all the amenities of the studios except that they also have a view if you get the ocean view rooms. I don't think the Studios have a view, but I've never actually seen one. We were thinking of going for a 1-bedroom this time but the location of the Inn rooms is so convenient that we're doing the Inn room again instead of a studio or 1-bedroom.

Anyway, VB is great. All the quality of Disney in a slower paced atmosphere!

That makes me feel so much better DVC Jen. I never knew the danger, and I hear very few people do.

I am so glad you you had a wonderful time! I am looking very forward to our trip there in the next couple years. And truly enjoyed reading your post. Take care!
