online some of the lenses just say "interchangable" Canon Eos..is that between film and digital or what? are there any letters or something that show it is a strictly digital lens? like there is a "28-80" which i have a film lens of that so how can i be sure it's a digital "28-80"

Canon EF-S lenses would be strictly for the digital bodies like the 300, 350, 10D, 20D and 30D, although I may be wrong with the 30D. The EF-S lenses have an element which protrudes back and will collide with the mirror on cameras like the 5D and 1 series digital cameras as well as the Canon film bodies.

EF lenses can be used on all EF Canon digital bodies and film bodies with an EF mount.

Older, like 20 years and older, Canon bodies have an FD mount and these would not be compatible.

i was wondering about a new one...didn't want to buy one and have it be for film (or do they not even make them anymore?) figuring if the 1.6 difference applies i want to know i am getting what i think i'm getting... ie i could buy a 28-80mm film lens and just be getting a duplicate of what i have rather than the 28- 80 mmdigital lens i think i am getting

disclaimor...mm numbers are for example purposes only and may not reflect my true purchase intentions

Canon does not make lenses for film cameras but they do make lenses for full-frame or 1.6 cameras. The full-frame lenses (EF) will fit all recent Canon SLRs, the EF-S lenses will only fit 1.6 digital SLRs (Rebels and 20D or newer, not 10D or D30).

The focal length of the lens is the same on a full-frame as on a 1.6 camera, the length that is printed on the lens. The difference is that on a 1.6 camera you only get the center 60% of the view compared to full-frame.

If you are looking at Canon brand lenses, the EF lenses will fit your Canon digital camera, though the EF-S lenses are made specially for the Canon digitals.

If you are looking at Sigma lenses, the digitals will have a DC after the focal length, as in "18-125DC".

There are no annoying lens questions, just annoying lenses (too slow, too long, too expensive...)
