Man hurt when pinned under Disney ride

LAKE BUENA VISTA — A man was injured when he became pinned under a ride at Walt Disney World while attempting to board it, authorities said.

The unidentified 70-year-old man fell off a conveyor belt while getting on Peter Pan’s Flight about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

He apparently fell into the path of the next vehicle on the conveyor belt, authorities said. The man was flown by helicopter to Orlando Regional Medical Center where doctors said his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The ride was immediately stopped and shut down for the rest of the day, said Lissette Campos a Disney spokeswoman.

“There is no indication of a ride malfunction,” Campos.

It was expected to reopen Wednesday.

The incident has been reported to the Florida Department of Agriculture Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection, according to Disney officials.

That sounds scarey. I've never rode this and not sure what the conveyor belt was doing running while he was trying to get on.

The conveyor belt is a "moving sidewalk", like they have at HM. It is how you get on the ride.

Oh ok. I was wondering about that. I don't remember one at HM but that's been 6 yr ago.

This won't be Disney's fault. I have never heard of this happening before. Obviously, it was an accident on the older man's part. That ride's been open since Disney World opened, and I don't recall ever hearing of an injury on it.
