Annual Salary Increases - What % does your company give?

I work for a governmental entity that is not tax dependent and is self-sustaining. Each year we receive a 2% step increase and then we get a "Cost of Living" increase, which has been around 3% the last few years, so 5% total. However, at times we are given additional raises if we have taken on additional duties, etc.

With the property tax crap though going on in Florida, I don't know how it's going to work out this year. While the agency I work for is self-sustaining, we are still city employees and usually adhere to what the regular city employees receive.

DH works for the state of Wyoming. So far he has received a 3% cost of living raise. He got that last July. At the end of July he and all the other State Employess at WYDOT will be receiving a 5.5% cost of living raise because the State has realized that the employee's salaries are below the national average. Whether DH gets incentive raises, I don't know.

Well, at my company, if you are a woman annual raises are between 2 - 3 %. If you are a man, it is 10 - 50%. I know, because I do the payroll and see everyone's salaries and pay raises.

My company gives 2 to 4%. I got 2% this year because they say that I am capped. The man who sits next to me, he does very simular work as me. His job title is different, he is a buyer, I am an assistant buyer. But I do believe I do more work, better than he does. I am also slightly more educated and have been at the company just as long as he has. He falls asleep at his desk, takes long lunches and spends most of the day, when he is awake, talking about sports. He makes $30,000 more than I do a year. I just don't understand how there can be a $30,000 difference being that I do most of the work. That is the case with all the women at my company. We are given lesser titles, work harder, and make less money.

And yet here in Indiana, they are constantly playing commercials about how great it would be for your business if you moved it to Michigan!

It would be good for the business if they moved to Michigan!! There is a severe shortage of jobs. Employers can get labor much cheaper when unemployment is high! I think it is good that the state is advertising and trying to do something about the problems!!

I am retired and took a part time job working with people with disabilities in a group home. I just got my 1st raise in 5 years, minimum wage went up......LOL

I always get "far exceeds" on my reviews and I get a "whopping" 3% each year. I am an Accountant in the healthcare field and have been with the company for 21 years. Our department (along with Finance) got "great news" about a month ago. Our clinic is involved in a joint venture with a large medical group and will be opening a hospital here in ~ 18 months. The Accounting department's services will "no longer be needed" once the hospital opens (don't let the door hit you in the *%$ !!). There may be other positions open at corporate if we want to drive an hour each way every day. No thanks!! I have been giving some serious consideration to moving southºoº. I just wish I would have some kind of psychic dream telling me what to do :). OK, enough whining :).

I got 10% and 15,000 bonus last year, and this year only 4% but 25,000 bonus. :)

Ok, we give up! What is your job title & educational experience? totally jealous here..... :cool2:

(Don't you hate it when you see an invoice for your boss - $6,000 for a down bed comforter, bedskirt, and window curtains for her bedroom! - Just a couple of months salary for me!!!)

Hubby's work is merit based

2% if you didn't do anything special that year

3-4% is average....

4.1-6% is exceptional work (when I worked there I had a 9% raise in one year, but b/c they started me at based and I busted my buns on my job)

If you really sucked or they want to be "punitive" with you--you might get a one time bonus check...but then you won't get a raise. Kind of a carrot to get you to do better. Especially since even a modest 1-2% raise would have been better than a one time payout.

Another factor is where you are in a pay "bucket" for your level.

For example a level 3 might make between X & Y dollars per hour....the closer you are to the lower end, the more room for a higher % increase...the closer to midline, the more likely your raise is in reference to your worth, the higher in the range, the lower your raises have to be b/c you are close to the max. Promotions often mean little raises since that puts you in the next bucket.

My present job I am independently contracted. The only way for me to get a "raise" is to work more to earn more pennies. Paycuts work the same way, only the opposite direction.

We are unionized. Our raises are negotiated. Our last contact was a 3 year with a 6% raise each year.

I am a buyer/production manager, excellent pay but lots of traveling overseas, my kids complained a lot, but no choice...

I'm usually happy with my 4% raise... but I have to shake my head in amazement when I hear what my BIL's bonus is every year.

He works as a managing director on Wall Street. Last year his bonus was $3 million :scared1:

I always joke with my wife that someday I want our house to be as nice as my sister's basement :rolleyes1

I've been through 3 review cycles at work:
Year 1
Raise = 3% bonus = 10%
Year 2
Raise = 8.5% bonus = 10%
Year 3
Raise = 3% bonus = 3% --- then they fired a bunch of people and reorged. Next year I expect it to go back to something between year one and two.

I am a SAHM mom and havent seen a raise in years, but after reading all these posts it makes me realize even more how lucky I am to be able to stay home:hug:
DH works for a family owned company that doesnt do real great in the raise department, but he travels for a living and they gave him a car, a company gas card and they pay all repairs. That is way better than any raise they would give him, so I spend a lot of time showing DH how good of a deal that is. He spends between $300-$500 a month on gas driving around 3 states, so for us this is the best deal. We just keep trying to keep seeing the silver lining when the commission plan changes every quarter and he is paid on commission.

when we are able to offer increases, they usually are 0 to 5%, based on attendence, attitude and performance. above a certain wage point, 35,000 per year or so it tops out at around 1000 per year to 1500

I work for a major pharma company (>100,000 employees), in NJ. I was rated above average (but not top 10%) this year, and received an "above agerage" raise of about 3.5% and bonus around 8%. My MOm told me I should feel very lucky! The bonuses are nice, but I'd rather have the bigger raise, since that stays with you!

Since this thread is 3 years old, whatever people posted 3 years ago about their raises is most likely VERY different now -- given the economy of the past year or two.

Zero, as it has been for 5 years. Anyone making over $50,000 has an automatic freeze. I know many who were cut 10%. The teachers got a 4% raise, and everyone is up in arms (NJ - we're losing 36% of money from the state this year). Even the town employees agreed to a freeze.

I work in a hospital and the most anyone will get this year is 2%.

My husband is a store manager in retail and they are not getting raises at all and because of that the company will not have to lay anyone off.
