Annual Salary Increases - What % does your company give?

Ha!! We don't get annual salary increases. I haven't had a raise in 5 years.

Just to pry a teeny bit ;) . What would happen if you went in and asked for one? Not that I think you should or that your company is in a position to hand out increases, but with the cost of living skyrocketing, those of us who do not get increases/bonuses are actually making less and less every year.

I work for the state/county government and we've been fortunate to get 1% or so on annual evaluations. Our county's budget was just passed and we were all called in last week and told that county commission had voted to adopt and fund a market survey that stated we (in my particular division) were grossly underpaid and we were moved up 2 full pay grades. That meant approx. $5,200.00 raise annually for me! It was unbelievable! It's eff. 9/1/07 and I'm so looking forward to that first paycheck. It makes me even more sad for those who get no increase or a raise that isn't even noticeable because that was me for the last 20 years.

I am a teacher in a catholic school. Tuition is going up up up. We got 1% this year. Not much at all but I am just happy that our school it still open. My hubby is also a teacher. I have been for 16 years he is on his 4th in the public school. The makes tons more thatn me but I love my job so I dont complain.

I work for a town and the increase is 2% a year. Then, if you aren't at the top of your grade, you get an additional 2% step increase. Once you are at the top of the grade, you only get the 2%.

Another teacher here, our salaries our negotiated every year. Last year we were really lucky and got 5%. Normally, we get 1-3%. Now with all the property tax rollbacks, we'll be lucky to get anything.

Raise, what the heck is that?? :confused3 Here in Michigan, they either cut your pay or hours so they can do you the favor of keeping you employed or they hand you a pink slip as thanks for years of service.

My DH has worked for the same company for 23 years and is th eonyl one that has been there that long. He is their main engineer who designs all of their new parts....basically the idea /fix it guy. He used to get a raise and a very nice bonus at the end of the year. Well those days are over. They are always saying that they don't have the money to give raises anymore or bonuses. We now get a $50.00 gift card at the end of the year. It is getting harder with the price of everything going up. I am sure they are charging more for their product. Who can figure it.

I am lucky to have a job.. Havent had a raise in over 5 years. In fact I am getting ready to take a $2 hour paycut just to keep my job.:sad2:

DH works for the state and he is getting a big whopping 2%. Thats after no raises for 3 years.

Lucky those who are truly appreciated by their employers and rewarded.:yay:

I work for a small investment firm. We just finished our review process and I received a 9.2% raise...3.2 for cost of living and 6% merit increase. I have worked here for 7 years and have received 10-12% most years. We have a new partner on board this year and he is trying to bring a bit more structure to the place.

I know how lucky I am...9.2% is waaaayyy more than I would have ever recieved when I worked for a non-profit hospital. I moved to the private sector because the pay and the raises are better.

DH was at a small firm for over 8 years. In the beginning (first 2-3 years), he got raises of about 4-5% and an annual bonus of one week's salary.

Business started slowing down. The bonuses went away. Then the salaries were frozen with no raises. DH stuck with them for the next few years out of loyalty.

Very nice people. He really liked his boss. The last year he was there, the company actually had to CUT salaries for everyone (even the boss)10%!!! He was making close to what he was making starting out at the company 8 years ago!!!!

DH works in a very specialized field. He didn't feel comfortable jumping ship to one of their competitors. The straw that broke the camel's back was when the boss turned down his request for vacation time.

The boss later changed his mind. But by then DH had sent his resume to another company and had gotten an interview and then a job offer.

In order to not directly compete with his old company, DH switched to a company that specialized in residential work instead of his previous commercail work specialty.

Resigning from his last job was the hardest thing he ever did. He said his boss looked like he was going to cry when he told him. There was no way the company could afford to match the new salary.

It was also the best thing he ever did. He loves his new job. He enjoys his co-workers and he feels appreciated there. Of course, he is putting in many more hours and has a lot more projects to handle but he likes the challenges.

In the last 15 months since he's been there, he's gotten an 8.6% raise, a 7.6% Christmas bonus, and is due for another review this month.

No annual raises in fact ours went down sort of. We work on commission and over the past 5 years commissions have dropped by an average of 33% (there are different commission scales for life, heath, home and auto insurance). They tell us we can make more by selling more.

This thread has made me truly grateful for my job and benefits. I will never complain again.

Raise, what the heck is that?? :confused3 Here in Michigan, they either cut your pay or hours so they can do you the favor of keeping you employed or they hand you a pink slip as thanks for years of service.

And yet here in Indiana, they are constantly playing commercials about how great it would be for your business if you moved it to Michigan!

Well, at my company, if you are a woman annual raises are between 2 - 3 %. If you are a man, it is 10 - 50%. I know, because I do the payroll and see everyone's salaries and pay raises.

That is the reason I left a job about 12 yrs ago. They told a single mother that had the same job as a man that the man had a family to support. That is why he should make more. Apparently being a single mother you didn't have a family.:scared:

It just chaps my **** that companies still blatantly do this.

My company is around a 3.5% cap, many get 3%, some less. Lord knows gas and other expenses go up more than 3% per year. The local electric company - the only option in the city, btw - is upping their rates over 10% soon. Given costs like that a raise of a few % doens't even keep up with general inflation. But I'll take what I can get. My father in law works for one of the biggest financial services firms in the world and they don't get raises at all (in spite of having the highest brokerage fees in the business!)

I will never ever complain about this subject again. Of course, I will only state this here! :thumbsup2

A little late on this one -but it's such an interesting thread. It's really nice to see if the grass is really greener on the other side!

I work for one of the top pharmaceutical companies in the world. I've been in my position for about 7.5 years, at the same grade level, though. My first boss gave me crappy raises and bonuses, but when she left and my new boss took over, that changed. He gave me the highest percentage for my grade level in both raise and bonus - 4.5% and approx. 8.5% (of my annual salary), respectively. He has been pushing HR for a promotion (up a grade level), but I don't have my degree (yet - working on it), so they're pushing back. He told me last week that he's very close to getting it. We'll see. This is the first time I ever showed my unhappiness at my meeting when he told me what my raise was. After reading this thread, I think I'm happy to have the job that I do.

Oh, and the newest bonus was they changed the vacation policy and I now get an extra 3 days per year - now I have 22 days a year (vacation and floating holidays combined). In 3 years, I get 3 more!

The average at our company last year was 4%, obviously some got more and some less. Promotion would be on top of that. 08 will probably be similar.

I just read that Hewitt reported 08 health care costs are projected at 14%.
