Before all the dining packages- i used to understand discounts. We're ap holders. And have been for about 8 years now. Then the magic your way with dining came out & I never considered it since we didn't need the tickets- we just needed a discount on our room- we already have tickets.

And it may be hopeless- but I just don't understand if I'm being stupid by ignoring the dining deals or not. We mostly eat 2 table service meals a day (sometimes eat counter service but rarely) & we usually do order app, entree & dessert & would find good use snack credits.

Maybe i need to sit down & re read everything for how these dining deals can still work for you- even if you have APs? i started reading it & my head started to spin but if you guys convince me that it CAN be a good deal then I'll look at it again.

for example-

There are 4 of us (2 adults, age 8 dd & age 5 dd). We're going 1/31-2/4 (staying at pop century on ap rate for $257.64 for 4 nights then switching to the grand floridian (i know- we're weird) for 3 nights on ap rate for $1022.64.

total for 7 nights lodging- $1280.28

and we like to eat good...sooo.....let's estimate $1500-$2000 in meals & snacks? :scared1:

Should i be looking at the dining packages? I usually have a glass of wine or 2 with one meal a day but my hubby doesn't drink.

And one more thing. All of our birthdays are between June 13 & July 9 (June 13, June 26, June 30 & July 9). Our aps are up at the end of march so we were considering coming down during a week when we could get the most 'free birthday passes' but then spending the rest of our week at a waterpark or the pool or shopping or boating. soooooo....we probably have another trip in the works already for June or July. I could always wait on the dining plan for january's trip but then 'give it a try' in june/july & see if I can tell if it was a good decision for us?

The best way to evaluate the dining plans is to make your ideal dining plan using the menus and prices where applicable at All Ears. Then see how it fits into the dining plans. You already know the quick service won’t work for you and I’m pretty sure the basic (based on wanting two TS meals and a appetizer) won’t work for you either. So, you’re pretty much looking at the Deluxe and seeing if you want to add the wine option (4 glasses per bottle is about right).

Just figure out the cost of paying out of pocket. Don’t forget to deduct for the Tables in Wonderland card if you have it, as an AP holder. Then compare that bottom line number to the bottom line number of the cost of the dining plan. Go with whichever is cheaper. And remember, AP holders can add the dining plan now.

It seems like you would benefit from using any of the free dining offers. One way we take advantage is to buy a package but only one day of tickets. Ask them to NOT but the tickets on your keys to the world cards and you can save them for the next trip that your passes are expired. Use the tickets and upgrade to passes once you're in the park.
