Nope! No discount per se, but,
If you schedule your annual WDW vacations so that your two visits fall within a 12 month period, that works out to a 50% discount. Lots of DVCers practise this.
And 50% is a pretty good discount.

I wish DVCers got a break with annual passes. I would think it would promote more return trips from folks if annual passes were pushed.

I believe price of admission to the park is similar to the cup you put your pop/soda in at the gas station. Addmission pays for the "cup and straw". What you spend at the parks and resorts on trinkets and dining is the soda... very low cost and very high margin.

We try to get 2 - 3 trips out of ours annual passes.

Yep, we're doing three this year too. We usually arrange it so our annual trips are skewed by a few weeks. Then we get two years of trips in one 12 month period. We wait 12 months and 2 weeks past the last trip to start the process over again. It means we are only buying APs every other year.

Thanks for the tip. We were already going to WDW in Sept 04, the cruise in Oct 04 and WDW Jan 05. Your responses convinced me to plan another trip to WDW next summer too. It sounds like a great deal to get annual passes.

It's not really a discount but it can lower the price per day to make the AP or in some cases, the PAP, much cheaper than other ticket media options. Or one could move to FL where you do get a discount.

We are going three times this year too to take advantage of our AP's. It works out to be less than $15.00 per day per pass. We will then skip just about a whole year before we go again and then do the AP thing all over again. IMHO Disney would make a lot more money by giving DVC owners a really decent AP discount. It would entice many of us to not skip every other year and purchase more AP's.

It isn't,( and I never said it was, someone else did) it is more bang for your buck. I don't think DVC owes us anything more than what we purchased, which is a "time share" with flexability. Any discounts, IMHO, are icing on the cake.

OHHH I got it LMAO it took me a while and some explaining. SO you mean that with AP you go down twice in one year like 11 months apart and then wait till the next year to purchase it again and do the same thing. So technically you are buying the AP once every 2 years ...Lightbulb time LOL and if you can go three times you get 3 uses in one year...Ahhhhaaaaa. LOL Thanks for explaining it

IMO I think if they gave AP discounts to DVCers they would get more $$ in the long run since I would go down more

No, actually they start the day you activate them even even you buy them ahead of time.

For instance, we had some extra money so we went ahead and bought our passes online a few weeks ago (also before the price increase) to pick up at will call when we go down in June. The start date of those passes won't be when we bought them, but will be June when we arrive.

We are taking a June trip and then a spring break trip next year. Saved money this way compared to buying two sets of park hoppers. We also are taking a couple extra trips thrown in for good measure to really max these passes. We won't buy APs again until we can swing it again this way. After the spring break trip we'll take a break and try for VB and maybe HH in the summer if we can get lucky.

As explained, they start when you activate them. However, if you elect to do the cheaper renewal of an Annual pass, rather than wait and buy another one, it starts from the day the previous one ends, regardless of when you activate it. That is in contrast to the fact the renewals once upon a time started when you activated them so you got a full years potential use from that point. Oh, the good old days.

Oh that stinks..What is the savings of renewing right away? Plus I would really like to know if they plan on offering a lifetime membership. Does anyone think that will ever be?

I haven’t purchased annual passes since they changed policy. We have a collection of half used hopper plus passes. We don’t visit the parks as often and visit offsite attractions. It was nice to use the annual passes for short visits and dining in theme park restaurants.

This would be a great perk for DVC members. Disney would receive a lot of up-front money and since most DVC members visit WDW so often, the purchase to activation time span would be much shorter.

Before we joined DVC, we would vacation at WDW about every 11 months. We now visit 2-3 times per year. If they offered DVC this perk, the activation pass wouldn't sit idle for more than 4-6 months.
