Annual Passes

What about the Target 5% discount? Is that better than the UT figure? Can someone help me figure that out?

Thanks!
Cost of 4 DVC annual passes: 4 x $419 + 6.5% sales tax = $1,784.94. 5% of that would be $89.25.

Purchasing Disney gift cards at Target with a RedCard, then using those gift cards to buy your DVC AP: Savings = $89.25

Undercover Tourist ticket upgraded to a DVC AP: Savings = $117.84

I guess you could combine the ideas and buy UT MYW tickets and then pay for the $447 AP upgrade (Dave mentioned above) cost via the red card purchased Disney gift cards to save an extra 22.50 (if you got 450 in gift cards and have 2 bucks left on a gift card)
That would about 140 in savings (118 + 22)

We just renewed our AP's for the two of us $798. Since we're here for the winter Jan 8th thru April 30th They pay for themselves. We try to go at least once a week. It's amazing how many older people we see at the parks, maybe because we're there too. Thee hours is about our limit

Is there a similar kind of loophole for renewing a DVC annual pass?
Yes, you can use this same process for a renewal.

A DVC adult annual pass renewal is $398.31. That's still more than the gate price of the 6-day adult hopper ($334.41), so you can use the same ticket from UT to get the $29 discount. The cost at the guest relations window to do the upgrade should be $63.90.

The difference is for a renewal, the expiration date of your new AP will be the same month/day as the expiration of your old AP. When purchasing a new AP, the expiration date of the AP will be one year from the date the MYW ticket you're exchanging was first used.

It's not a dumb question, because it is a complicated comparison. (I didn't have time to do it at work, earlier.)

The cost of an adult DVC annual pass is $419 + 6.5% sales tax = $446.24.

Look at the discounts on the Undercover Tourist site to find the ticket with the biggest discount (the orange column), but at the same time has a gate price less than $446.24.

With the MouseSavers discount, the best ticket is the 6-day Park Hopper. ($29 off the gate price.)

Here's how it works, this time with the numbers.

Buy the 6-day adult park hopper ticket from UCT using the MouseSavers discount and pay $304.95. (This price includes the tax and the shipping.)

Use the ticket at WDW at least once, and then upgrade it to a DVC Annual Pass.

WDW will give you a credit of $334.41 for this ticket toward your upgrade. ($314.00 + 6.5% sales tax)

You should pay $111.83 for the upgrade. ($446.24 - $334.41)

So in the end, you've paid a grand total of $416.78 for your DVC annual pass, and saved $29.46.

another (perhaps) dumb question. Do you save as much with DVC AP Premium?

It is the same ($29) savings. Of course you pay the additional cost of upgrading the MYW to the PAP.

Upgrading to a PAP gives you more possible ticket options (could use tickets with water parks and more) from UT, but the UT water park tickets with a price lower than the DVC PAP do not currently have a savings greater than $29 listed.

I think I got a handle on the math behind this, now I have a question about the execution.

After I use the ticket to get into the park can I immediately go to Guest Services to upgrade to the AP? We are not using the dining plan this year and wanted to try the TIW card.

Yep. If you're going to Magic Kingdom, for example, walk through the turnstile and immediately into City Hall to do the exchange.
