If you purchase a voucher for an Annual Pass, does it have an expiration date on it? Do you have to redeem it for the actual Annual Pass within a certain amount of time?

Is the voucher in anyone's name. Can I buy a voucher and then decide laterif I wish the Annual Pass to be for my husband or son?

It is my understanding Annual passes/vouchers activate the day you purchase them - no matter where purchased. Used to be you could order ahead of time and then when you get tothe parks you would turn in your voucher at guest relations and activate your pass for 1 year. Not anymore. No sense purchasing ahead of time.

that started immediately. I thought you could still purchase a voucher for an AP and then the AP was activated on the day of first use with the renewal starting immediately at the end of the first year.

Does purchasing a voucher immedately active the AP?

Only renewals are activated when you purchase. New AP vouchers are not activated until the first day of use. That's what the Disney Store told me when I purchased my PAP in December 2000 for my November 2001 trip.

We just purchased AP's in 1/01 for our 8/01 trip.
We purchased them through TDS. The passes are not activated until 1st use (at guest relations) and expire 1 year from that date. Only the effective date has changed with renewal of annual passes.

I currently have PAP passes that expire the end of May. Instead of renewing can I just buy new PAP passes and get the voucher so I don't have a start date of the end of May? Or am I stuck with renewing.

...I think you can purchase vouchers for new PAP's or AP's at any time and activate them when you want, but you would not get the AP discount on the renewal (I believe it is 10%). It would be as if you had never had AP's. The imediate renewal date only comes into play if you renew.

I don't know if it is an annual event, but Disney was offering new vouchers in November/December at the renewal rate to existing AP holders. The intent was that you could buy vouchers for AP's to give as Christmas presents. You could give one or more to, say, your grandchildren for a vacation they might take at some time in the future, maybe during Spring Break, Summer Break or the following Christmas Break and have a full year to return.

The intent was not to offer backdoor renewals that didn't have an immediate start date but I don't think that was inforced this year. Next year, Disney may catch on to this loop hole and close it somehow or not offer the discounted vouchers to existing pass holders.

I live in the real world, so I choose to vacation in Fantasy Land!!

the AP Voucher is not dated and does not expire and the one-year clock starts ticking when I activate the AP for the first time. Is this correct?

RweTHEREyet?

RweTHEREyet - you are correct. We purchased our AP VOUCHERS at TDS in September, 2000. Turned them in on January 14, 2001 and they are good through January 14, 2002. Hope this helps.

The tickets do have the names of the individual passholder printed on them. So trading isn't an option as they have carded people in the past I have heard to see if the name matches the passholder name.

The actual passes have names on them. The vouchers do not, so you can decide who you want to use them when you activate them.

I just exchanged a voucher about 3 weeks ago and it did not have an expiration printed on it.

Annual Passes are activated the first day you go into the parks. They are then good for 1 year. When you purchase them (Disney Store) you are given vouchers. There is no name or expiration date on them. When you arrive at a park, you go to guest services and they will exchange the vouchers for your annual passes. The annual passes will then have YOUR Name and the Date you are entering the park. Therefore, you have 1 year from that date.

Can you think of any reason why you might not want to buy a voucher now (to lock in the current price) even though you don't know when you might first use it (this year, next year or 18 months from now)?

RweTHEREyet?

I am going through the same process of debating on an annual pass. If you know for sure you are getting one, i say get the voucher now and lock in the price since the AP time starts only after you validate it at the park.

I am looking at my renewal vouchers right now...there are no names on them or expiration dates (we got through the loophole this year -- new year renewal will start the date of the renewal rather than at first use)....BUT there is a date of purchase and I would use caution thinking you could purchase them now for use in over a year's time...that would be a question I would definately want answered by a Disney staffer and have a name, etc., to back it up if I were going to try that...I don't know that I'd take the chance at the prices of these things to do that in order to save a few bucks...I'd rather pay the extra in 18 months and KNOW that it was good...my opinion only.. ;)

Hi there,
I'm going to WDW for the 1st time and staying 13 glorious days..we discovered{through a wonderful CMO} that an annual pass would be cheaper plus we could use it for another year...well here's my dilemma my lil girl is 9 going on 10 in October..we go to WDW in August ...how will her age change affect her status on her annual pass???

Ummm now this may sound a little sneaky but how will disney know your daughter turned ten? This is the first year I have had an ap so I don't know if they check, but they don't check ages for hopper passes, that I am sure. I would just not say anything, they won't know she is ten and not nine. (Of course I wouldn't recommend this to someone whose child is obviously way past 9). However if you feel you must do this legitimately you can upgrade the pass for her at guest relations.

Please don't kill the messenger, but I spoke to
the Disney Ticket Center yesterday, and I was
told that the AP "exchange certificate" expires
one year from purchase. I received these
certificates when I purchased the gift AP's.

All this means, is that the voucher must be
exchanged for the pass within one year of
purchase, and then the pass is valid for 365
days from the time it is turned into a pass.

The date I purchased the vouchers is stamped on
the back of them, although there is no actual
expiration date printed on them. Disney tells
me this is a new policy. I don't know if the
"exchange certificates" are the exact same
thing as "vouchers", and if this rule applies to
both. Can anybody clarify?

I hope I just saved somebody some $$.
