Annual pass renewal question

Has anyone recently renewed their annual pass? Last year when we renewed it was at the ticket window and a bit confusing with the “OMG i can see the castle we are almost there!” excitement, and I don’t know how it will work now.

We have the platinum passes. We are DVC members. Do we get to renew our platinum passes or will we have to switch to one of the new passes for renewal?

You will have to switch since the old passes are no longer being sold. We renewed in March and had to choose one of the new types.

I renewed one of our annual passes yesterday. We had a platinum pass but renewed it to an Incredi- pass. They don't offer the platinum passes anymore. We are regular AP holders, not DVC members.

I'd do it online.... if your in your renewal window - do not let that window close.

Yes you will have to pick from one of the new classes of AP that are open to DVC Members - Sorcerer or Incredi-Pass.

It seems last year we were able to renew early for a Feb/March trip. Do you have any idea if they would let us renew now for a March trip next year (to book park reservations). Our expiration is not until Dec.

Do it online or at least over the phone. Since you have to switch to the types, they may give you a voucher that shows up in MDE. The voucher has to be redeemed for APs at GS, a ticket window, or the ticket center at DS.

They are no longer allowing renewals outside of the defined renewal window.

Probably not. I think 60 days is the earliest.
I prob just need to call and try. It was very early when we renewed last year but it was right when they suspended AP sales so there may have been some exceptions.

We tried last year to renew early for the same reason. We escalated the request as far as we could, using the reasoning that non-AP holders could gobble up the park reservations with a resort package reservation while we--AP holders--were being forced to wait.

Disney would not budge and denied our request to renew early.

I am afraid that is what we are facing as well.

This may be hijacking the thread and I apologize for that. We are FL residents with Pixie Dust passes. Are we able to upgrade or can we upgrade at renewal? Not sure if that’s possible given they aren’t selling new passes in many categories.

I had to buy park tickets for Thanksgiving trip to get park reservations. I then had to call and apply the cost of the tickets to our AP renewals. Ours were expiring the day before our trip. If you have time between the trip and your renewal window and if it’s not a busy time, then park reservations will probably still be available.

No upgrades, even at renewal, from what I’ve heard. You can always try.

You won't have to worry about park reservations being gone when you are able to renew when you are 60 days from the expiration date. That still gives you plenty of time to get park reservations. There is a special group of park passes that are reserved for AP holders who have Disney resort reservations. :)

Thank you. I figured that was the answer. We like our Pixie Dust Pass but DS and DDIL mentioned bringing DGS for his first visit and I think they’ll want to go including a weekend. Would be so hard to miss out on the magic of being with them.

You should be able to upgrade/downgrade during the renewal. Mid-cycle upgrades were stopped and not sure if they started allowing them again.

For our trip in October 2021, we had to purchase 7 day park tickets (we actually got hoppers through UT) and link them in order to make park reservations for our length of stay. Our AP expired three days into our scheduled trip. Knowing/not knowing how quickly the parks were filling and knowing we had booked our reservations 11 months out, we didn't want to risk being shut out of the park of choice on any given day. We linked the 7 day PH and when it was within our renewal date, we did so utilizing the cost of the PH against the AP renewal.

Side note, I was lucky enough to get grandfathered in for photopass--my old APs included it and we renewed before the switch to Incredi-Pass. Once we picked up our new tickets at guest services, the photopass was "given" to us with the Incredi-Pass. No Platinum passes were being issued in October 2021.

they will not. In the past, I have been able to renew early as well. This year called and was told they cannot renew early. Had to purchase regular tickets and then will convert them when we can renew.

It always happens to us with an AP renewal coming during a trip reservation and being concerned about park reservations AND ADR's 60 days prior (honestly I don't trust that there are plenty of park reservations 'saved' for AP or even DVC on the 60th day with all that's going on now and Disney IT in general.

Following the advice of several posters, I purchase the cheapest ticket that will cover the missing AP days and make sure it shows up in MDE. I have no intention of using it and bridge it for the AP renewal in person. It allows me to make both Park Reservations and ADR's the early morning of 60 days prior.
