Annual Pass Renewal--Active Immediately?

Annual Passes are set to expire in Mid-May, and wondering if we re-new, do they become 'active' right away--or do you get a voucher that will make it active upon the first use? I'm guessing they are active immediately, but just double-checking.

Renewing your AP gives you a discount which means the ticket continues once the original one expires.

You can’t renew an active Disney AP until 60 out from expiration date and then 30 days after. The new AP would kick in after your old one expires in May.

Thank you!! That is what I thought. Really like to space this out to cover 2-years worth of trips--so gotta think this one through. If I KNEW AP's were coming back, it be a no-brainer, and I'd let it expire. But, might want to take the hit and hang onto this one for another year until I see what is going on.

They are no longer using renewal certificates. Your renewal will be effective on the date the prior expired, no longer have to activate.

When we had APs, we had to activate them at guest services, but the activation date was actually when our previous AP expired, no matter when we "activated " them.
