This may be hard to explain, but it seems lately everyone thinks they have the right of way in this situation and they don't and its SO annoying!

So, you're driving straight down a road, and you want to make a left turn. On your left (the street you're turning on) is a car also making a left turn (so if you went straight, that car would be behind you). Got it so far? So anyway, once you put your turn signal on, this other car thinks they have the right of way to turn in front of you, so if you were to speed up, you'd hit them. This has happened to me more time than not lately. If you understand what I'm saying, does this happen to anyone else?

Fog lights! The bozo's that have their fog lights on when the closest fog is 160 miles away in Long Island Sound. It's supposed to be a violation, but the d**m Troopers are driving around with theirs on too!

If you're not passing anyone get out of the left or high speed lane...
Use Your turn signals!!!

I understand perfectly Minnie, because that is also my biggest pet peeve when it comes to driving..... I just force them to go around me. Did these people NOT pass the written test??

Of course, I'm a bit crabby today, so a lot of things are annoying me right now....... this, however, annoys me even on a good day.

Don't these people know that I am the most important person on the roads ;)

while i always wait in those types of situations (since i never know if the person has their turn signal on by accident), i don't see what the problem is as long as they are not pulling out RIGHT in front of you, so you might hit them even though you're turning.

there are some streets around here where you basically have to turn in front of people to get out.

maybe i'm misunderstanding you.

Usually if Im taking a left and the person on that street is also trying to take a left onto the street Im already on, I will stop before I turn(as if waiting for oncoming traffic) and let that person go. If not they could be sitting there for hours trying to get out. We have one intersection near us where that situation comes up a lot.

However I do agree Minnie. When someone doesnt ahve the right away, it bugs me to no end when they think they can just go. It almost makes me not want to be nice sometimes.

Hmmmm . . .how bout this one . . .

Unfortunately I have a 4-way stop to go through every day before I reach home . . .

How come nobody knows what to do at a 4-way stop?

means you don't have to stop at all. If you are "yielding" to the right of way, and there's traffic coming, you STOP if you have to! Just because it says "yield" doesn't mean you can't make a stop. ;)

ugh, me too! i have the same issue.

Why is it that EVERY idiot and their brother picks the middle of a snowstorm to take the car out? Last week, I got to go 20 mph behind traffic because the yahoo at the front of the pack was afraid to go 40 (minimum speed allowed on a highway.) Hello... it's a highway... the pavement was cleared better than any side road and you could actually SEE the pavement because it was salted and melting the snow on contact. Then there are the ones who ride your tail in the middle of snowy conditions. It's pretty safe to assume that if I have to stop, they are going to hit me since they are practically giving my jeep a rectal exam up the exhaust pipe. I won't even mention the ones who are in such a hurry that they never stop to think that their tires will spin when they try to pull out of the intersection. They can't wait until you pass and there's nothing behind you... they have to go before you get to the intersection. UGH!

And, BTW, Ratsrule, I thought that I was the most important person on the road. ;)

Bad drivers abound I tell ya! Bad drivers in general are one of my biggest pet peeves.

Why don't people use their turn signals. It really won't waste gas or electricity. Geeze!

Why do people who are driving down the street suddenly switch into the right lane as they see the light coming up is going to turn red... when they aren't going to turn, and those behind them then CAN'T turn right on a red?!! (Which we can do here, unless a sign says otherwise.)

Why do slow-pokes go in the left lane?

Why do those with only 1 person in the car go in the car-pool lane when they shouldn't? What, the rules don't apply to you because you are in a hurry? NOT!

Why do people rubber-neck past anything with a flashing light on the side of the road and then slow traffic down to a snail pace? Get moving! It's none of your business what's going on. And the worst is when the traffic on the "other" side is slowed up because of a few nosey people. Ugh!

Why am I going on and on? :o I think you guys get the point!

And now I get to go drive home. Oh joy! ;)

EVERYONE on the road nowadays seems to think they have the right of way.

Just curious though, why would you speed up if you are slowing down to make the turn?

Regarding the original post, since both cars are making left turns, I believe the car who reaches the intersection first would have the right of way.

That is true BUT I believe that if the person is to your right they do have the right away even if you got there first, at least here in MO.
In the original post I believe the person would be to your left giving you the right of way (legally).
And yes I know this as I had an accident in a Suburban in that situation. Now I was a teen and put my blinker on late so the driver assumed I was going straight and then proceeded to put on makeup and move forward without looking up. As I sat high up, I watched her run into to me. The law was on my side however as I had the right of way.
Now as an older woman I just assume no one pays attention.

No turn signals
not staying in their own lane
tailgating me
cutting in front of me
slow pokes in the left lanes.
slow pokes in the right lanes. :teeth:
people not paying attention to what they are doing
people throwing butts and other trash out the windows. I really hate that.
In snowy conditions I would rather them go slow according to the fact that they don't know how to drive in it, than to go fast and cause an accident.

Here's my problem... WAY too many people on Disney property do not know what the proper procedure is when encountering the following objects:

Proper procedure requires the vehicle to come to a full and COMPLETE stop... You must reach ZERO SPEED. If at the red octagon, verify that it is safe to proceed, and THEN you may resume pressing on the gas pedal. If at the red colored light, wait for the green light to illuminate, then proceed.
